Feril named UPS Scholar
PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University student Mary Feril has been named a UPS Scholar for 2005. Feril, a junior from Grand Prairie, received the United Parcel Service scholarship recently as part of the UPS fund’s $68,759 in grants dispersed to the 22 schools participating in the Texas Independent College Fund.
UPS Scholars are selected by their universities based on academic achievement and financial need. The scholarships and grants are funded by the UPS Educational Endowment Fund. Since its inception, the UPS Educational Endowment Fund has generated more than $37 million in scholarship support.
“The UPS Foundation has been honored to support education through partnerships with such organizations as Foundation for Independent Higher Education and the Texas Independent College Fund,” said UPS Foundation president Evern Cooper. “The availability of quality, affordable higher education is critical to establishing a talented, more diverse workforce.”
Feril, who is majoring in theatre and education with a minor in English, hopes to teach theatre at the high school level in the future. She is heavily involved in the Wayland theatre program, acting in several productions and playing other key roles behind the scenes. A member of the Fine Arts Ambassadors group, Mary is the daughter of Harry and Cindy Feril.
“I am honored to receive this scholarship and use it to further my education and reach my goals,” Feril said. “I’m glad that UPS believes in youth and entrusts their resources to further the next generation.”
