PLAINVIEW - Wayland Baptist University will host prospective students for Gold Rush, a one-day preview event planned for Saturday, Nov. 15 on the Plainview campus.
The event is held annually in the fall and allows high school juniors and seniors and prospective transfer students to visit the campus and learn more about Wayland. Gold Rush kicks off at 8:30 a.m. with registration and continental breakfast.
The day continues with welcome, performances by Spirit and door prizes. Students will be introduced to Wayland administrators and student leaders, and will participate in a division fair allowing them to visit with faculty from each academic division.
Information about financial aid, student activities and student services will be presented as well. Participants will also have opportunities to ask questions of various school officials. Mock classes will be held to give prospects an idea of college courses, followed by lunch featuring a concert by Rejoice and an organizational fair with scholarship drawings.
Participants may enjoy a conference tournament volleyball game at 1 p.m. in Hutcherson Center, and tours will be available at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Auditions for music, theatre and art will be scheduled throughout the afternoon for interested students.
Evening choices include the final game of the Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball tournament at 5 p.m. or the 8 p.m. performance of Wayland University Theatre's play Fools by Neil Simon.
Cost for the day is $6 per person, which includes breakfast, lunch and admission to the volleyball game. Tickets to the play are $8 for adults and $4 for students. Parents are welcome to attend any or all of the event.
