Christian musician Joy Williams to present concert during WBU chapel

Contemporary Christian recording artist Joy Williams will be featured in concert during the weekly chapel service at Wayland Baptist University on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m. in Harral Memorial Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public.

Joy Williams At just 19, Williams has already released two albums under the Reunion Records label and has begun to make a name for herself in the Christian music circles and was part of the group Point of Grace's "Girls of Grace" conferences for young women.

Williams recently released her second album, titled "By Surprise," several singles of which she herself wrote. Her adventure into songwriting has been a growing process, she said, but one in which she's learned much.

"Although it does make me feel very vulnerable, I love putting my thoughts down on paper, talking about things that have been on my heart lately," she said in her artist bio. "I have yet to hone the art of clever songwriting, but I am learning that it is just like having a conversation only with background accompaniment."

Williams is a familiar voice on contemporary Christian radio, with hits like "I Believe in You" and "Serious." Her music has been described as a "fresh pop sound reminiscent of mainstream artists such as Natalie Imbruglia, Nelly Furtado and Sheryl Crow.

Joy released her self-titled debut album in July 2001 and recorded the album while still attending high school. Since signing with Reunion, she has been a part of The "Left Behind" Tour, label-mate NewSong's Summer and Winter Jam Tour and both the spring and fall legs of the Avalon "Oxygen" tour.

This past year, Joy was a New Artist of the Year Dove Award Nominee. She also presented and performed at the 10th Annual MOVIEGUIDE Awards in Los Angeles in March.
