Wayland - San Antonio hires new development director
Former pastor Ben Craver has returned to the San Antonio campus of Wayland Baptist University as director of development.
Craver previously worked at Wayland as an academic counselor and recruiter, and has taught religion on an adjunct basis since 1998.A resident of San Marcos, Craver said he is excited about the growth of Wayland-San Antonio and is proud to tell the Wayland story.
"I think Wayland has met the needs of mobile, fully-employed adult students - someone who maybe attended college a year or two or spent a few years in the military or just worked for 15 or 20 years and decided one day to get a degree," Craver said. "I think we can meet the needs of people who will contribute to the community and might not have otherwise."
In the role of development director, Craver will be arranging appointments with individuals around South Texas and Wayland's Chancellor Dr. Wallace Davis in order to build relationships and talk about what Wayland has to offer the area.
"We're trying to get the Wayland story out in front of people and hopefully that will follow with financial support in the future," Craver said. "Dr. Davis calls it 'friend-raising.'"
Craver is a native of Princeton and a graduate of East Texas State University (now Texas A&M Commerce). He also holds the Master of Divinity degree and the Doctor of Philosophy degree in theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
He spent 18 years in the pastorate in east and central Texas. Craver and his wife, Elizabeth, have one daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Jeremy Lea, and a granddaughter, Kenda ll.
