WAYLAND BAPTIST UNIVERSITY-LUBBOCK CAMPUS
Safety and Security Disclosure-Jan. 1-Dec. 31 2006


Wayland Baptist University-Lubbock Campus enrolled 850 students in the Spring of 2006. All students reside off campus. Wayland’s Lubbock Campus is concerned about your safety and security. We place a high priority on maintaining a safe environment for students, faculty and staff. We cannot, however, guarantee the absolute safety of any particular student. Since safety must begin with the individual, you must take the responsibility for personal safety. No security measures can be successful without your support and cooperation. The University does not provide security in any way off-campus.

Crimes should be reported to the Dean of the Lubbock Campus during regular office hours. Our telephone number is 785-9285. Crimes may be reported 24 hours per day by contacting the Lubbock Police Department at 775-2865. Emergencies should be reported by dialing 911 or 763-5333.

Upon request of the Dean, patrol of the Lubbock Campus is made by the Lubbock Police Department. Off-duty law enforcement personnel are also enrolled in our criminal justice program most evenings.

Parking areas of the Lubbock Campus are well lighted. Individual offices are locked, except during regular class/office hours. A staff member is present during regular office hours (9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.). All outside doors are checked at 10:10 p.m. to insure that they are locked, and all classroom doors are locked when classes are not in session. A telephone is also available in the student lounge in case of emergencies.

Exit doors are identified, and fire extinguishers are prominently located in case of emergencies.

Wayland Baptist University prohibits the use of illegal drugs or alcohol. Wayland forbids the possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and/or alcohol paraphernalia, and alcohol by students and employees on its property, or as part of any activity of the University. Compliance with these standards of conduct for both students and employees is mandatory.

Firearms for protection or for sport are strictly prohibited at Wayland.

In compliance with the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990, Wayland has compiled and reports the following crime statistics for the period of Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2006.

PERSONAL SAFETY

The following information is presented with the intention of assisting you in providing a safe environment for the Lubbock Campus.

SECURITY SERIVICES

• The following services are available to Wayland Baptist University-Lubbock Campus student:

• Emergency telephone service is available in the office during regular office hours, and in the student lounge area at any time during class hours.

• The Dean or academic advisors can assist members of the campus community who are victims of crime. Call 785-9285 for assistance.

• Safety lighting has been placed in strategic locations on campus.

• If you notice lights that are not working, please call the office at 785-9285.

• Upon request, commissioned law enforcement officers can patrol the campus. Off-duty law enforcement personnel are enrolled in criminal justice courses at the Lubbock Campus most evenings.

• The Lubbock Campus staff makes frequent inspections of the facilities from 6:00 a.m. until 10:10 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays.

• Policies and regulations concerning student conduct are in existence to address crimes against persons and property.

GENERAL SAFETY

• Avoid walking alone in dark areas. If you must walk alone, be aware of your surroundings. Look behind and around you as you walk.

• Park cars in lighted areas. Lock car doors and conceal any valuables left inside the car.

• Dress for mobility. Carry your personal belongings in a backpack or similar container that will enable your arms and hands to be free at all times.

• Never leave your personal belongings unattended.

• Always tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return.

• Do not get close to a vehicle if you are walking and a vehicle approaches you.

• Never allow someone to predict your route of travel. When you are walking, driving, biking, or jogging, vary your route.

• Register, engrave, mark and/or photograph all your valuables including bicycles, stereos, jewelry, vehicles, computers, etc.

SECURITY AT YOUR RESIDENCE

Never prop your door open, even if you will be gone for only a few minutes. Always lock doors, screens and windows to prevent uninvited access to your residence.

Do not give anyone the key to your residence.

Do not leave valuables in plain sight.

Never let strangers into your residence. This puts you and others in danger.

Be aware of suspicious persons and activities. If you observe someone or something suspicious, notify the police or sheriff department immediately.

Report any obscene or irritating telephone calls to the police or sheriff department.

Use outside lighting and keep shrubbery trimmed around windows and doors.
