DESCRIPTION: - This course develops skills in basic concepts of algebra, real numbers, linear equations and inequalities, polynomials, systems of equations and inequalities, and graphing and functions.
Prerequisites: This class is generally for students with some background in high school algebra (at least a semester). If you have not had any, ACAC MATH is strongly suggested. If you have had two years of high school algebra, take MATH 1304 (College Algebra).

COURSE EXPECTATIONS:
Have Fun! Yes, it is possible to enjoy yourself while you learn- these numbers can be very interesting. Lots of kool patterns, interesting history and startling revelations!
Attendance: This is a real must for this course. Attendance is required. Excessive late arrivals or early departures will be taken into consideration when assessing absences. Material will be discussed in class and included in the exams that is not in the book. It is the students responsibility to obtain any material missed when absent regardless of the reason for the absence. The student must not miss any more than 3 classes. Absences beyond 3 classes or 25% of the class time may result in a failure in the class. In case of TDYs or any absence, the instructor should be notified as soon as possible- preferably BEFORE the absence.
Homework and Reading: Assigned homework and reading are to be completed AFTER the class session for which they are assigned.
Quiz/Tests: All material assigned with be reviewed and tested each week. Quizzes will occur in all weeks when a test is not scheduled. Class discussions and Lectures are based on the reading.

Your instructor is an ADA qualified dyslexic, and although bright, she makes frequent reversals- for which students get quiz points if they catch the mistake before the instructor corrects it. Incomplete Policy: A grade of incomplete is changed if the work required is completed prior to time set in the WBU catalog. If work is not completed by this date, the grade of I is automatically converted to the grade of F.

Grading Scale:
A = 90-100% I = Incomplete
B = 80-89% W = Withdrawal
C = 70-79%
D = 60-69%
F = Below 60%
Grading Weight: Your grade will be based on total points earned divided by total possible points, on quizzes/tests. Class points are added as bonus points. This result will then be assigned a grade based on the Grading Scale above.
Quiz / Exam Information:
1. A quiz will be given weekly over the homework assignment from the previous date, and after review of any questions based upon that assignment. .
2. If a student misses a class for any reason, he/she is still responsible for the quiz given on that date. The student will be responsible for scheduling a time to make up the missed quiz during the next class meeting that they are in attendance. Dr. Dempster will meet with you to review what was covered in class.
3. Any quiz not completed by the last regularly scheduled class period will be counted as a zero, unless arrangements are made ahead of time.
4. Make-up exams may be arranged with the instructor if an exam grade is low. The make up exam will be more rigorous than the original exam.
5. Missed quizzes, case studies or exams (w/prior notice and/or excuse) may be taken at
the WBU office during regular office hours. Call to make an appointment.
