Dr. John B. Copeland, III is currently the Executive Director and Dean of the Fairbanks Campus for Wayland Baptist University . Dr. Copeland is a distinguished military graduate of North Georgia College, the senior military college in the state of Georgia, and served as an airborne infantry officer with the 4 th Battalion, 23 rd Infantry from 1975-1977 at Ft. Richardson, Alaska. Dr. Copeland is an award recipient of a national writing award from The Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, and has received the national God and Service Award from the Boy Scouts of America. He was inducted into the Outstanding Young Men of America in 1983, and the International Who's Who of Professionals in 2001.

Dr. Copeland was born in the Territory of Alaska at Elmendorf Air Force Base Hospital while his father was stationed at Ft. Richardson. Subsequent to receiving two master's degrees from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, Dr. Copeland served in church staff and pastoral ministry in Alaska from 1981-2002. Dr. Copeland was the original church planter of Crossroads Baptist Church in North Pole, Alaska. He has an earned doctorate from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California in 2000. Dr. Copeland is an Associate Professor of Religion, teaching Old and New Testament History and Christian Ministry classes. He has served on the adjunct faculty of Wayland Baptist University from 1985 - 2002. Dr. Copeland has been married to Jill (Hall) since 1978, and has three children, Julianna, Jennifer, and John IV. John and Jill are also proud grandparents of Makenzie Grace and Jillian Elizabeth who live in Eagle River, Alaska.
