NIGHT MONITOR (S585) (Part-Time Position)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Night Monitor serve as monitor for all facilities used by Western Oklahoma State College and Wayland Baptist University for weeknight and weekend classes on Altus Air Force Base.

SPECIFIC TASKS
AND DUTIES:

A . Duties prior to the start of classes:

1.  Arrive at the Billman Education Center, Bldg. 87, by 4:45 pm in order to begin unlocking classrooms and inspecting for readiness for 5:30 pm classes.

2.  Unlock classroom doors, turn on lights and inspect classrooms to insure they are ready for class (clear trash from tables and floor, erase boards, straighten tables and chairs)

3.  Issue supplies to faculty as needed.  Each school will provide supplies for distribution to faculty as needed.

4. Set-up all audio-visual equipment, computers, overhead projectors, etc.

5.  Insure instructors have all of the necessary equipment to hold class (cordless mouse, remote control, pointer)

6.  Assist students and instructors in locating classrooms.

7.  Check ID’s at entry during appropriate periods.

B.  Duties while classes are in session:

1.  Be accessible to faculty and students between 5:00pm and 10:00 pm each night and on Saturdays between 8:00 am and noon on days when classes are held.

2.  If an instructor has not arrived in thirty (30) minutes; have the class sign a sheet of paper and leave – unless you have been notified that the instructor will be late. Phone the school representative of the class cancellation.

3.  Be located in room 236 - Western Oklahoma State College’s (WOSC) office area, or in the halls of the building. Do not loiter outside classrooms.

4.  Make a security, safety and fire check each hour of all pertinent classrooms in the building while classes are in session.

5.  Insure privacy of student records and other classified materials by monitoring weeknight and weekend access to school offices.

6. Answer phone in WOSC office area and deliver emergency messages to students.  (WOSC phone number is given to faculty and students of all three schools for emergency calls.)

7. Be prepared to respond appropriately to any emergency.  During severe weather alerts, keep instructors informed and, using best judgment, instruct classes to dismiss.  Under emergency situations, make sure all individuals vacate to the designated Shelter in Place and that instructors provide a roster of students in attendance on that date.  Inform all school representatives of early dismissals or other emergencies.

8. Insure that students in each classroom are in compliance with the “NO TOBACCO” policy. Enforce the use of the designated smoking area outside the building.

9.  In the event that it is necessary to move classes from Altus Air Force Base, the building monitor must enforce the rules of the host institution. 

C.  Duties at the conclusion of classes:

1.  Insure computer systems are appropriately logged-off and all overhead projectors are properly turned off.

2.  Inspect each room, collect items left by students or instructors and turn in to appropriate school office with note to school staff.

3.  Return all property (cordless mouse, remote control, pointer) to the appropriate school.

4.  Empty all trash cans each night and remove trash from the base for disposal.

5.  Clean boards each night.

6.  Restore furniture in classrooms each night.

7.  Conduct a security check of all buildings, including all offices, classrooms and restrooms to verify that they are vacant, following the end of class sessions.

8.  All outside exit doors will be left unlocked while classes are in session. Building 225 classroom doors and all exit doors in the education wing will be secured at the conclusion of each day’s classes.

9.  Record the time of final security check on Standard Form 701, provided by Educational Services Officer, prior to departing facilities at end of tour of duty.  This form is maintained by the supervising liaison.

D.  Other duties to be performed

1.  Report to supervising liaison prior to beginning of each term to pick up the classroom schedule provided by the Education Office Staff.

2.  At all times the monitor will represent the schools in a professional and courteous manner and assist instructors and students in any reasonable manner.

3.  Notify the supervising liaison of any Building Monitor absence and provide pre-approved alternative’s name and telephone number, not later than eight (8) hours prior to the start of the scheduled period of duty.  In the case of an emergency, notify the supervising liaison as soon as possible.  The Building Monitor is responsible for paying the alternate for services rendered.  Alternate must have a valid base pass.

4.  Report and be responsible for repair and replacement of damaged/lost equipment or damage of school or government property due to the Building Monitor’s negligence.

5.  Advise supervising liaison of any defective equipment, lights not working, fire hazards, plumbing problems, etc. in a timely manner.

The above statements are not a complete list of all responsibilities and duties performed by employees in this job.  Employee may perform other related duties as assigned by the Campus Administrator/Academic Advisor.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and Licence:

High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Experience & Knowledge:

Experience in building security and monitoring is preferred.

Skills & Abilities:

1.  Good physical condition.

2.  Basic computer skills.

3.  Must be able to carry out the assigned duties of the position.

Additional Requirements:

1. Appropriate dress and well-groomed, neat appearance is required.

2.   Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid gate pass to Altus AFB.

3.  Must have no delinquent or defaulted items on Credit Report.  A credit check will be conducted to insure the requirement is met.
