Financial Aid Manager


The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for assisting the Financial Aid Manager in advising students about their financial aid needs and assisting them in completing applications, identifying sources of financial aid, serving on scholarship committee, assisting current students with financial aid needs and tracking financial aid accounts. The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for posting student financial aid documents as they are received, verification of student data and preparation of student financial aid files for packaging.


1.  Assists with administrative tasks as required

2.  Advise students and prospective students about financial aid needs in a timely manner which includes loan programs, repayment options, deferments available and indebtedness information.    

3.  Assist students with applications and on-line financial aid services in a timely manner.

4.  Validate financial aid information based upon U.S. Department of Education  approved methods. 

5. Assist students in identifying sources of financial aid by providing access to sources of financial aid, including grants, loans and scholarships.

6.  Set up and maintain completed financial aid files in timely manner without delays to student awards.

7. Advise students with repayment of loans by maintaining contacts with related offices in Plainview.

8.  Assist with registration.

9.  Work extended hours and days as necessary. 

10.  Assist in graduation ceremonies as required.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and Licence:

1.  High School completion required.

2.  Post high school education in Business or related field is highly desirable.

3.  Recent work towards an associate or baccalaureate degree a plus.

Experience & Knowledge:

1.  Progressive office experience, preferably in financial aid.

2.  Knowledge of financial aid policies and procedures is preferred.

3.  Knowledge of the academic requirements for completing degrees at a four-year educational institution is a plus.

4.  Knowledge of resources needed to complete university degrees is also a plus.

Skills & Abilities:

1.  People-service (student) centered.

2.  Possess strong administrative skills.

3.  Ability to multi task is essential.

4.  Demonstrate commitment to the mission of the university. 

5.  Possess proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite with a demonstrated ability to learn other computer related functions applicable to the job.

6.  Possess effective verbal and written skills plus excellent listening skills.

7.Must be detail oriented and have good organizational skills.

8.  Ability to understand and interpret personnel policies and procedures.

9.  Ability to learn and retain vast amounts of information from a wide variety of sources.

10.  Ability to understand and interpret policies and procedures.

11.  Ability to be flexible, prioritize and available to work extended hours as needed.

12.  Ability to follow directions and work cooperatively with others.

13.  Punctuality, dependability, integrity, honesty and loyalty in the performance of duties are required.

Physical Demands:

Employee must be able to work as a team player, work indoors and in an environmentally controlled office area with florescent lighting and on occasion work outdoors. Long periods of sitting and some stooping required.

Additional Requirements:

Must have no delinquent or defaulted Student Loans.  A credit check may be conducted to insure the requirement is met.
