RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Public Relations Coordinator in the Office of Public Relations and Communications is responsible for representing the office to all of the University’s public in a positive manner and provide assistance in all aspects of the office.

SPECIFIC TASKS
AND DUTIES:

1.  Serve as office manager, coordinating supplies, mail, files, bookkeeping/requisition processes, student timesheets and budget monitoring for both the public relations and alumni offices.

2.  Act as advisor and supervisor for the yearbook staff, making sure deadlines are met and the yearbook is properly packaged and sent off for publication.

3.  Write and prepare press releases as needed.

4.  Assist with basic graphic design of brochures/posters/ads etc. …

5.  Assist Director of Alumni Development with graduation and homecoming as needed.

6.  Use the online monitoring service (meltwater) to prepare reports on publication and social media hits regarding Wayland Baptist University.

7.  Maintain online calendar and provide photo and writing assignments for yearbook staff based on campus events.

8.  Serve as the office web manager, loading press releases, online newsletter and keeping communications website updated.

9.  Monitor and keep the official university social media sites updated.

10.  Assist the university community with business card and stationary orders.

11.  Help staff distribute media releases and bid requests as needed.

12.  Provide support for staff in terms of ideas and strategies for university communications efforts.

13.  Provide support for other advancement offices as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and Licence:

1.  High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.

2.  College degree preferred.

Experience & Knowledge:

1.  Proven office experience.

2.  Experience working with the public both in person and on the telephone required.

3.  Experience with journalism.

4.  Experience and knowledge of the basic elements of graphic design.

Skills & Abilities:

1.  Must have strong interpersonal skills and a pleasant demeanor both in person and by telephone.

2.  Excellent communication skills both written and oral.

3.  A strong work ethic.

4.  Proficiency in computer applications, specifically Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Power Point and Excel.

5.  Experience with Adobe design software is a plus

6.  Ability to multi-task and organize projects.

7.  Excellent skills in project and detail management.

Physical Demands & Work Conditions:

Ability to lift files, open file drawers and perform repetitive arm and hand movements. Stopping, bending and standing is required. Sitting at a desk or workstation. Viewing a computer monitor. Physical dexterity and coordination.

 

Work as a team player. Indoors, environmentally controlled. Importance of being exact or accurate. Repetitive motions and tasks. Transportation to and from work provided by individual. May require travel to other locations.

Additional Requirements:

Must have no delinquent or defaulted Student Loans.  A credit check may be conducted to insure the requirement is met.
