Head Football Coach and Athletic Director


The Assistant Football Coach is responsible for assisting with the Varsity and Junior Varsity Football program. 


1. A commitment to a Christian lifestyle and coaching from a Christian perspective is essential.

2.  Coordinates the recruiting of student-athletes who have the ability and potential, athletically and academically, to achieve success at WBU. In that sense, the Coach serves as a recruiting officer of the University, attracting students to participate in the programs.

3. Assist in the planning, organizing and supervision of the Varsity Football and Junior Varsity program.

4. Adhere to all policies and procedures of the NAIA, the Central States Football League and WBU. 

5. Arrange for the use of facilities and vehicles through the Athletics Director and Head Coach.

6. Assists with the management of facilities and maintenance issues, to include equipment and facility

    upkeep and student workers.

7. Responsible for all work study participants, budgets and paperwork associated with work study program.

8. Responsible for assisting with the implementation and adherence of strength and conditioning program, to include:

a. The tracking of our athletes’ progress in the weight room.

b. All of the following aspects of a successful strength and conditioning program:  Agility, Endurance, Power, Strength and Mental Toughness.

c. In-season and off-season programs as well as position specific programs.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and Licence:

1.   Bachelor’s Degree in ­Exercise & Sport Science or closely related field is required.

2.   Master’s Degree in EXSS or closely related field is preferred.

Experience & Knowledge:

1. Knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the game of football.

2. Knowledge of athletic recruitment and techniques.

3. Knowledge of NAIA regulations and guidelines governing the recruitment and retention of student-athletes.

Skills & Abilities:

1. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

2. Ability to lead and guide student-athletes in their areas of specialty.

3. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.

4. Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.

5. Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a university environment.

6. Possess good PC skills and experience in word processing, spreadsheet and database experience.

7. Be able to communicate with the team in practice and competition.

8. Possess written and oral communication skills and be able to communicate with a variety of constituents.

Working Conditions:

1. Work involves standing and walking with considerable exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises.

2. Moderate physical activity.  Requires handling average weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and walking for more than four hours per day.

Additional Requirements:

Must have no delinquent or defaulted Student Loans.  A credit check may be conducted to insure the requirement is met.
