RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Information Technology Software and Systems Support Technician advises staff on matters pertaining to computers, networking, data security, electronic messaging, telephone, and data management. Consult with staff and supervisors to resolve problems such as equipment performance, output quality, and work schedules. Help maintain the network, data servers, Exchange server, Web server, and help plan and maintain the local area network and the wide area network supporting the campus.  Help program and maintain the general campus Web site and the electronic board Web site.  Help program and maintain the campus data system, to include programming necessary source code changes in the system, backups of the system data bases and Web sites.  Help monitor and maintain all telephone equipment and operations on campus and external sites under control of the campus. Assist supervisors with data management needs and Web site updates. 

SPECIFIC TASKS
AND DUTIES:

1.  Obtains information - observes, receives, and otherwise manages necessary information from all relevant sources.

2.  Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships - develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with students, peers and supervisors.

3.  Independently plans and prioritizes, organizes, and accomplishes assigned responsibilities.

4.  Communicates effectively with supervisors, peers, or subordinates – provides information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.

5. Provides technology support for registration and graduation.

6. Works in a cross-functional team capacity to develop, coordinate and implement the registration schedule and process.

7.  Provides technical expertise and support for campus technology applications.

8.  Evaluates software applications used by the university to make sure they operate efficiently.  Suggests and develops improvements, additions or modifications as needed.

9.  Evaluates user needs and helps design and create software applications to meet those needs.  Review and analyze system specifications to determine whether all required elements have been included. Consult with end-users and other supervisors to gather information about program needs, objectives, functions, features, and input and output requirements.

10.  Design, develop, document, analyze, create, test, debug and/or modify computer systems or programs, including prototypes, based on and related to user or system design specifications.

11.  Document applications correctly following accepted industry standards.

12.  Provides IT support National Testing Center operations.

13.  Assists in preparing long and short range technology planning and implementing of IT services and programs for campus end-users within budgetary guidelines.

14.  Helps plan and implement IT disaster recovery plans for the campus.

15.  Offer support, as necessary, to end-users of the software.

16.  Create help files and user manuals as necessary to support the applications and end-users of applications maintained by the campus.

17.  Advises and works with end-users to resolve specific IT problems.  Make changes to programs, computer applications, and program capabilities, recommend alternative programming approaches, communicate limitations, etc.

18.  Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

19.  Attend classes, seminars, conferences and review professional literature to enhance knowledge of trends and developments related to programming.

20.  Complete administrative tasks correctly and on time.

21.  Adhere to all university policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and Licence:

1.  Associate Degree or experience in related field required.

2.  Bachelors Degree in related field preferred.


Experience & Knowledge:

1.  Two - three years of information technology support.

2.  Knowledge of Web design with emphasis on active server page programming and dynamic linking to data bases.

3.  Strong knowledge of Microsoft Access, Excel, Power Point and Word.

4.  Strong knowledge of database management systems.

5. Strong knowledge of creating and deploying web-based applications.

6.  Working knowledge of programming, project management, development and implementation.

7. Experience working with and maintaining Microsoft Exchange Servers.

8.  Experience working with and maintaining network servers.

9.  Experience working with telephone operations.

10.  Experience working with terminal servers.

11.  Experience in a university administration setting, preferably student records office or registrar office.

12.  A deep commitment to Christian Higher Education and agreement with the purposes and philosophy of higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and WBU in particular.  13.  An understanding of and commitment to work with educational programs related to churches, businesses, industries, and the military.

Must have no delinquent or defaulted items on Credit Report.  A credit check will be conducted to insure the requirement is met.
