The Academic Advisor serves all Admissions Office functions on the Amarillo Campus.  This includes both recruitment and counseling functions.  Provides personal assistance to students regarding degree plan and program requirements. Obtains information from all relevant sources. Analyzing information provided by students to evaluate and help students choose the best solution. Translates or explains information on degree plan requirements and school policies. Communicates with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail. Provides guidance and expert advice on degree plans and policies and procedures to management or other groups on technical, systems, or process-related topics.  This person also assists with registrations, and assists with graduations.



1. Treat others as you would want to be treated.

2. Counsel individuals to help them understand their educational options.

3. Counsel students regarding educational issues such as course and program selection, class scheduling, school adjustment, study habits, and career planning.

4. Address community groups, faculty, and staff members to explain available services.

5. Assess needs for assistance such as financial aid, or additional education, and refer clients to the appropriate services.

6. Compile and study occupational, educational, and economic information to assist students in determining and carrying out educational objectives.

7. Conduct follow-up interviews with students to determine if their needs have been met.

8. Provides first back up concerning Registrar functions.

9. Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.

10. Assist the Executive Director/Campus Dean and back up the Office Staff to meet the needs of the Amarillo Campus.

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field is required.

    Experience &  Knowledge:

1.   Experience advising students in an academic setting preferred.

2.   Principles, methods, and procedures for career counseling and guidance.

3.   Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

4.   Knowledge of academic degree plans and requirements.

2. Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
