RESPONSIBILITIES: |
The Virtual Campus Instructional Design Specialist performs responsible work in the preparation, testing, implementation, and evaluation of courses offered remotely through electronic means. Duties consist of consulting with faculty on educational design, reviewing/designing course structures, and participating in Virtual Campus strategic planning. Work is performed under general supervision with evaluations of job performance based upon accuracy and timely completion of assigned work. MAJOR/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Instructional Design Specialist will perform technical assistance functions and specialized duties in the support of distance learning programs, by providing technical and andragogical support to faculty related to course design and delivery. Employee will provide assistance to students, faculty and staff to facilitate WBU administrative requirements as it relates to on-line course offerings and student requirements. Must be able to interact with students, faculty and administrative representatives appropriately through verbal and electronic mediums. |
SPECIFIC TASKSAND DUTIES: |
1. Perform specialized duties in the support of distance learning programs with respect to effective practices by providing andragogical support to faculty related to course design and delivery. 2. Provide assistance to faculty to facilitate WBU administrative requirements as it relates to on-line course offerings and student requirements. 3. Work with subject matter experts to enhance their skills in the preparation and delivery of online courses. 4. Suggest appropriate strategies for interaction in the online learning environment. 5. Perform checklists for development of new online courses, currently implemented courses and courses needing review at the request of a Department Dean. 6. Work with Virtual Campus staff to develop and publish online tutorials and other guidelines for faculty and staff. 7. Provide telephone support for faculty and students. 8. Resolve/recommend solutions to problems as they arise related to differences in teaching models, academic disciplines and learning styles. QUALIFICATIONS: |
A written statement of personal faith in Jesus Christ is required. |
Academic: |
Bachelor's Degree with coursework in Educational Technology or other job-related area. |
Experience & Knowledge: |
Two years full time paid computer-related experience; OR a combination of education and/or full-time paid related experience to equal five years; experience with Blackboard, Flash, and distance learning a plus. |
Skills & Abilities: |
1. Accuracy, alertness, precision in working with Blackboard and related course management and learning object creation tools (e.g., BLOGs, Wikis, HTML, Flash, Second Life, etc.). 2. Required communication, computer and organizational skills. 3. Must have a commitment to Christian higher education and agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular. |
