RESPONSIBILITIES: |
The Financial Aid Advisor is responsible for advising prospective students about their financial aid needs and assisting them in completing applications, identifying sources of financial aid, serve on the scholarship committee, assisting current students with financial aid needs, tracking financial aid accounts plus timely and efficient disbursement of funds. |
SPECIFIC TASKSAND DUTIES: |
1. Advise students and prospective students regarding financial aid needs in a timely manner which includes loan programs, repayment options, deferments available and indebtedness information. 2. Assist students with applications and on-line financial aid services in a timely manner. 3. Validate student provided financial aid information based upon U.S. Department of Education approved methods. 4. Assist students in identifying sources of financial aid by providing access to sources of financial aid, including grants, loans and scholarships. 5. Assist the Assistant Campus Dean in developing sources of scholarship funds by providing timely assistance when requested. 6. Serve on the campus scholarship committee which selects scholarship recipients and awards scholarships on the basis of available funds and awards criteria. 7. Set up and maintain completed financial aid files in timely manner without delays to student awards. 8. Advise students with repayment of loans by maintaining contacts with collections office in Plainview. 9. Assist with registration by providing financial aid counseling and assist with registration during four registrations. 10. Assist with two graduations each year. 11. Prepare yearly objectives and be able to provide this information as requested. 12. Assist with updating of this positions job description as requested. 13. Work late afternoons and early evenings to accommodate student needs and faculty needs. Occasional Saturday work may also be required. QUALIFICATIONS: |

Academic: |
1. Bachelor’s Degree is required. 2. Master’s Degree is preferred. |
Experience & Knowledge: |
1. One (1) year of office related experience is required. 2. Financial Aid experience is preferred. 3. Knowledge of financial aid policies and procedures is preferred. 4. Knowledge of the academic requirements for completing degrees at a four-year educational institution is also required. 5. Knowledge of resources needed to complete university degrees is also essential. 6. Must enjoy the mission of integrating faith and knowledge at Wayland Baptist University. |
Skills & Abilities: |
1. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
2. Must have the ability to analyze mathematical calculations accurately. 3. An in-depth understanding of, and commitment to, the “team” and “servant leadership” concepts is essential to advancing the Lubbock Campus mission. 4. Excellent word processing skills are also required, along with a good knowledge of computer technology for on-line services. 5. Excellent skills in the interpretation and understanding of academic requirements related to financial aid students. 6. The ability to apply Biblical principles in a variety of counseling situations is also essential. 7. Excellent manager of time. |
