RESPONSIBILITIES:

As a full-time faculty member, the Assistant Professor of English will be primarily responsible for teaching a variety of undergraduate English courses.  Additional responsibilities may include teaching an occasional online and/or graduate course in English.  All qualified applicants will be seriously considered; however, due to current needs in the department, the preferred candidate would also have coursework or experience in teaching creative writing, and/or 18+ graduate hours in Spanish, French, or German.

SPECIFIC TASKS
AND DUTIES:

1.  Prepare and teach (24) semester hours of courses each academic year.

2.  Maintain a minimum of 10 hours of office hours/week.

3.  Academically advise undergraduate and graduate students and assist with registrations and recruiting events.

4.  Assist the Dean and faculty members in developing new English programs, reporting data, selecting textbooks, and developing syllabi.

5.  Serve on University, Faculty, and School Committees; assist with graduations and attend scheduled faculty and staff meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS: A commitment of Christian Higher education and in agreement with the purposes and philosophy of Christian higher education as promoted by the Baptist General Convention of Texas in general and Wayland Baptist University in particular.
Education, Certification and Licence:

Ph.D. in English or related field (such as technical communication, composition, or rhetoric) with coursework or experience in teaching creative writing preferred but not required.  Graduate hours in Spanish, French, or German also a plus.

Experience & Knowledge:

Recent experience teaching English in a college or university setting is required.

Skills & Abilities:

1.  The ability to teach English courses at the undergraduate and graduate level.  Additionally, preference will be given to applicants with one or more of the following qualifications:

a. coursework or experience in teaching creative writing

b.  18+ graduate hours in Spanish, French, or German.

2.  Fluency in the English language with impeccable writing and speaking skills;

3.  The ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities with no direct supervision;

4.  Proficiency with computers, technology, and related educational/classroom equipment; 

5. A strong interest in teaching and leading in the growth and development of undergraduate students;

6. The ability and desire to apply Christian principles in the workplace.

Additional Requirements:

1. Endorsement by the Executive Vice President/Provost.

2. Must be able to pass Background Checks.

3. Must have no delinquent or defaulted items on Credit Report.  A credit check will be conducted to insure the requirement is met.
