The School of Music is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The faculty consists of 11 full-time faculty members and 12 adjunct faculty working with a music student body of 70 majors and minors; approximately 23 % of the general student population participate in some curricular aspect of the School of Music every semester. Wayland offers the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education, Church Music, and Performance and the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree with emphasis in General Music, Theory/Composition, and Church Music and Worship.

VOCAL STUDIES:

The Vocal Studies area is a dynamic, growing program. With a recently added Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance degree, vocal students are exposed to a wide variety of performing experiences, participation in local and regional NATS conferences, and exposure to regular master classes taught by both studio professors and visiting artists. The program currently rotates a well-received range of annual scenes programs, children’s opera, and full operas/musicals. Applicant is expected to build upon the current program while exhibiting visionary leadership in shaping the program’s future.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Professor of Voice and Opera/Musical Theatre will be to teach applied voice and direct/oversee the opera/musical theatre program. As load allows, faculty member could teach other related courses such as vocal pedagogy, diction, class voice, song literature, and opera literature.

SPECIFIC TASKS

AND DUTIES:

1. Course load will total 24 semester hours per academic year.

2. Advising undergraduate students as assigned.

3. Serving on University and School of Music committees as assigned.

4. Active engagement in professional development activities.

5. Active engagement in School of Music recruiting and retention initiatives.

6. Participate in faculty meetings, creative/scholarly activity and service appropriate to the university faculty member.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Wayland Baptist University seeks a person with an enthusiastic and contagious Christian faith who is committed to Christian higher education that integrates Christian faith with learning.

Academic:

An earned doctorate in Voice or Opera is preferred.  ABD considered.

    Experience &  Knowledge:

Prior collegiate teaching is expected.

3. A strong Christian commitment and the willingness to be involved in the life of the university and her students.

4. Ability to contribute to the vision and development of an established yet growing undergraduate music program.

     Additional Requirements:

1. Baritone or bass preferred. Tenor considered.

2. Endorsement by the Provost/Academic Vice President.

3. Must be able to pass background check which may include Credit Check.
