RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities of the Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano will be to accompany choral ensembles, opera/musical theatre rehearsals and productions, in applied studios (vocal & instrumental), student recitals, and faculty recitals. Faculty member will also serve as Accompanist Coordinator. In addition to accompanying, teaching duties according to expertise may be Accompanying Seminar, Applied Piano, and courses in piano pedagogy. As a faculty member of WBU he/she will represent the University’s academic and spiritual emphasis to the students, faculty, staff, and the community in a manner consistent with the University’s mission and purpose.

SPECIFIC TASKS AND DUTIES:

1. Accompanying and course load to total 24 semester hours per academic year.

2. Advising undergraduate students as assigned.

3. Serving on University and School of Music committees as assigned.

4. Active engagement in professional development activities.

5. Active engagement in School of Music recruiting initiatives.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Academic:
An earned doctorate in collaborative piano or its equivalent is preferred.
    Experience &  Knowledge:
Prior collegiate collaborative music experience is expected.
Skills & Abilities:

1. The ability to accompany for choral ensembles, opera/musical theatre rehearsals and productions, applied studios (vocal & instrumental), student recitals, and faculty recitals.

2. An interest in working at a university where teaching excellence is highly valued.

3. A strong Christian commitment and the willingness to be involved in the life of the university and her students.

4. Ability to contribute to an established yet growing undergraduate music program.

5. Ability to travel off-campus for WBU music events.

     Additional Requirements:

1. Endorsement by the Provost/ Academic Vice President.

2. Must be able to pass Background Checks.

THE UNIVERSITY:

Wayland Baptist University is a four-year liberal arts university.  The institution is affiliated with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. The Wayland Baptist University System is comprised of the Plainview campus, which is predominately a residential campus, twelve external campuses, and the Virtual Campus offering courses in all academic areas.

SCHOOL OF MUSIC:

The School of Music is an accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music. The faculty consists of 11 full-time faculty members and 12 adjunct faculty working with a music student body of 70 majors, 20 minors, and approximately 23 % of the student body participating in some curricular aspect of the School of Music every semester. Wayland offers the Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education, Church Music, and Performance and the Bachelor of Arts in Music degree with emphasis in General Music, Theory/Composition, Music Industry, and Church Music and Worship.
