Associate of Applied Science

The Associate of Applied Science degree program requires a minimum of 63 semester hours with at least 16 of those semester hours in residency with Wayland. The foundation course work is found in the General Education Core.

The Academic Major consists of 33 hours, and the courses required vary according to the major selected. Four Majors are available in the A.A.S. degree. They are (1) Business Administration, (2) Human Services, (3) Religion, and (3) Occupational Education.

Credit may be awarded from both traditional and non-traditional sources. This includes, but not limited to, course work from accredited colleges and universities, course work evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE) such as the Army/ACE Registry Transcript System (AARTS) transcript, Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcripts, Military Occupational Specialties (MOS), and various Military Schools. In addition four (4) credit hours may be awarded from evaluated work experience.

Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education

The Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education degree is a 124-semester hour degree designed to afford both academic and professional depth for individuals who possess recognized competence in an occupational or technical field. The degree integrates university degree requirements with appropriate occupational or technical preparation. A minimum of 36 semester hours must be in upper-level credit (courses numbered 3000 and above) and 43 semester hours in a general education core.

Major fields of study included in the degree have specific upper-level requirements. Requirements for each major are included in the Occupational Education section of the catalog. The B.S.O.E. degree requires a 36-semester hour major of which 18 semester hours must be in upper-levelcredit. The major may be selected from Business Administration and Occupational Education.

The Professional Development component consists of 24 semester hours selected to provide depth or breadth to the major and to provide substantive developmental knowledge for the student's career or personal goals.

The Practicum or Internship component consists of 12 semester hours designed to provide practical experience as an integral part of the student's career development. Experiential learning may satisfy a portion of this requirement. Experiential learning must be evaluated and approved by the university to ensure its relevance to the degree.
