PLAINVIEW — Wayland Baptist University president Dr. Paul Armes recently announced the promotion of Mike Melcher to Executive Director of Advancement. In his new position, Melcher will oversee the work of the development and alumni offices as well as public relations.
Melcher has been with the advancement department since June of 2006, serving as the Director of Corporate Development. Melcher came to Wayland with 30 years of experience in private business. He holds a bachelor’s of business administration degree from Texas Tech University (1973) and a master’s of business administration from Wayland (2008). He earned Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) status in August of 2011.
“Mike has earned the CFRE certification which is the gold standard for development professionals,” Armes said. “He has done an excellent job in advancement at Wayland Baptist University since his arrival. He is a hard worker, and has the ability to form healthy and positive relationships with a wide variety of people.”
Melcher said one of his goals is to increase the overall effectiveness of the development staff in fundraising efforts.
“I’m elated with the opportunity that this provides me to develop and grow a development staff that will enable the university to achieve its goals financially,” Melcher said.
He takes over just as the university stands poised to kick off phase two of its Spanning the Centuries capital campaign. The construction of a new men’s dormitory ushers in the second phase of the campaign that will focus on the construction of a new Flores Bible Building, the expansion of the School of Fine Arts facilities, and other areas of need around campus.
