Erika Raymond signsFrom little sister to grandparents, former coaches to future coaches, everyone was all smiles Tuesday afternoon when Erika Raymond made her decision official to play college basketball at crosstown Wayland Baptist University.

"We're very excited having a girl from Plainview High School to play for us," Queens coach Tory Bryant said of the all-stater. SEASON COMES TO END

Staci lays it inEdmond, Okla.---The Flying Queens ended their season in the quarter-final round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament Friday afternoon with a 67-51 loss to second-seeded Oklahoma Baptist, ranked #8 in the final NAIA poll.

QUEENS MOVE ON TO 2ND ROUND

Vanita watchesEdmond, Okla.---The Flying Queens, down ten at the midway point of the second half, went on a 16-2 run and held on during the final moments to defeat Northwestern Oklahoma State by a score of 67-63 in first round action of the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament.

Vanita Wright scored a career-high 23 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead the WBU women. Megan Coats added 21. The Queens advance on to play #2-seed Oklahoma Baptist on Friday at 2 p.m.    >>Read More

 

MEGAN COATS NAMED SAC FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR

All-SAC womenFlying Queen Megan Coats has been named the 2007-08 Sooner Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year, the league announced Monday. In addition, the 5-7 point guard from Amarillo, who leads the conference in scoring with a 16.4-point average, earned 2nd team All-Conference honors.

COATS SCORES 31 IN REGULAR SEASON FINALE

Megan in laneFreshman point guard Megan Coats wrapped up her first regular season in a Queen's uniform with 31 points to help lead the WBU women to an 81-74 victory over the Drovers from USAO.

The win gives the Queens the #7 seed in this week's Sooner Athletic Conference tournament, which begins with first round action Wednesday in the Eagle's Nest on the campus of Oklahoma Christian University. QUEENS FAIL TO PULL OFF UPSET

A dribblesSouthern Nazarene University came back from a six point halftime deficit to defeat the Wayland Baptist Flying Queens, 73-64, Thursday evening at Hutcherson Center.

The Queens led by as much as nine in the first half, but the Crimson Storm came out firing in the final period. After tying the game at 53 with 5:48 left on the clock, the Storm went on a 14-3 run over the next four and a half minutes to put the upset-minded women from WBU away.   >>Read More

 

OFFENSES TAKE CENTER STAGE IN UPSET

Katie drivingIt was homecoming at Wayland Baptist Saturday afternoon at Hutcherson Center, and the fans and alumni that came out were treated to an exciting game full of offense in the opener of the doubleheader.  There were 26 lead changes and 12 ties in the women’s contest, and both teams scored well above their season averages. 

Flying Queen freshman point guard Megan Coats put on quite a show all by herself, hitting six of her seven three-point attempts on the way to a career-high 31 points, and three other WBU women joined her in double figures.  Unfortunately for the WBU fans, the wrong team came out on top of the game, as Mid-America Christian University (8-22, 4-16) pulled off the 84-80 upset over the Flying Queens.    >>Read More
