RECORD BREAKING SEASON COMES TO A CLOSE
Oklahoma City, Okla.---The most successful baseball season in Wayland Baptist history came to a close Thursday afternoon with a 10-4 loss to top-ranked Lubbock Christian University in the second round of the NAIA Region VI Tournament.
The Pioneers, which were ranked 13th in the final NAIA poll released Wednesday--- the highest final rating by a Wayland team, wrap up the spring with a school-record 43 wins, 16 losses and a tie. >>Read More
RAIN FORCES POSTPONEMENT AT REGION VI TOURNEY
Oklahoma City, Okla.--- Games originally scheduled for Wednesday in the NAIA Region VI baseball championships have been postponed due to rain.
The tournament will pick up again Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium with the same schedule – Northwood (Texas) vs. Texas Wesleyan at 11 a.m., Lubbock Christian (Texas) vs. Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 2:30 p.m. and Oklahoma Baptist vs. Oklahoma City University at 6 p.m.
WBU LOSES REGION VI OPENER
Oklahoma City, Okla.---The Pioneers jumped out to a 7-1 lead over Oklahoma Baptist in Tuesday evening’s first round contest at the NAIA Region VI Baseball Tournament. THREE PIONEERS NAMED ALL-CONFERENCE
Three members of the Wayland Baptist University Pioneer baseball team have been named to the 2008 All-Sooner Athletic Conference team. Second baseman Brett Cook, catcher Brett Sheppard, and pitcher Todd Jeffress earned the recognition for their performances on the field this season. >>Read More
SHEPPARD'S WALK-OFF HOMER SHOOTS PIONEERS PAST STARS
Brett Sheppard hit a two-run walk-off homer to lead the Pioneers to an exciting 7-6 victory over Oklahoma City University in the second round of the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Pioneers now advance to a winner's bracket showdown with top-ranked Lubbock Christian University.
PIONEERS BEAT UP STORM
Junior Chris Nettles pitched seven strong innings and the Pioneer bats manufactured 13 hits in a 12-1 victory over Southern Nazarene in the first round of the 2008 Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament.

STRINGER NAMED NAIA AND SAC PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Wayland Baptist’s Trevor Stringer has been named NAIA and Sooner Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 21-27.
A freshman from Lubbock, Stringer accomplished what no other SAC pitcher has done this season – beat top-ranked Lubbock Christian University. He scattered nine hits in 8-2/3 innings, allowing only one extra base hit in the 7-1 Pioneer victory over the Chaps on their home field Saturday night. >>Read More
PIONEERS SIGN JUCO PITCHER
Wayland Baptist baseball coach Brad Bass has already filled a big hole in his pitching staff next season, signing 6-4 right-handed pitcher Todd Weldon to a letter of intent to play for the Pioneers.
Weldon, a 2006 graduate of Carlsbad High School, is currently a sophomore at New Mexico Junior College where he is 1-0 with a 4.91 ERA in 14-1/3 innings of work. He played his first year of collegiate ball at Garden City (KS) Community College where he went 9-3 and was second on the team in both wins and in innings pitched. >>Read More
