Cheerleading Squad 2007-08
2008-09 WBU Cheer Team

CHEERLEADING

Wayland Baptist University currently hosts an all-girl squad of 7. We are currently trying to expand the squad a little each year to include more men and women. The main function of the squad is to support the athletic teams both at home and on the road whenever possible. The cheerleaders currently cheer at volleyball and basketball games. They participate with the Christian Cheerleaders of America for camps and competitions. In 2004 the Wayland cheerleaders participated in their first ever competition with COA and brought home a National Championship. It was bittersweet however because there was no one to compete against. In 2006 Wayland found the CCA competition which not only gave them someone to compete against, but also a place to compete against schools of the same ideas and values. Wayland again came home from the CCA competition in Winston-Salem, NC as the CCA National Champions! Over the past five years Wayland cheerleading has gone from an all girl squad of 12 to a coed squad of 13 last year. The main goal and purpose of Wayland cheerleading, however, is not to cheer on the teams or win competitions. It is to glorify Christ in all of our actions. Without Christ we are nothing.
