Athletic Training Program

The Pre-license in athletic training option gives students the unique opportunity to learn about the management, prevention and rehabilitation of activity related injured.  For individuals interested in undergraduate degree programs that focus on athletics and science Wayland Baptist University’s Pre-Professional Programs set a student in the right direction.

This pre-license program allows students to gain eligibility to an athletic training education program. The course gives individuals a strong background in nutrition and exercise, foundations of athletic training, exercise program design, kinesiology and advanced techniques in athletic training.

Students who major in physical education and who are seeking teaching certifications can benefit from this program as it is the pre-license program to becoming a licensed athletic trainer.

Wayland Baptist University is among the top Christian colleges in the United States.  As a Texas based college the programs follow Texas State guidelines.

The Texas State Department of Health requests the completion of the following courses as part of the requirements for students to sit for the certification examination in Athletic Training:

BIOL 3408 – Human Anatomy and Physiology I
BIOL 3409 – Human Anatomy and Physiology II
EXSS 1161, 1162, 2161, 2162, 3161, 3162, 4161, 4162 – Apprentice Athletic Trainer Laboratory
EXSS 2305 – Introduction to Personal and Community Health
EXSS 3308 – Foundations of Athletic Training
EXSS 3312 – Physiology of Exercise
EXSS 3315 – Kinesiology
EXSS 4308 – Advanced Techniques in Athletic Training

This program has been approved by the Texas State Department of Health for pre-license preparation in athletic training.  In addition to these courses students will gain hands on experience that will prepare them for a variety of professional fields, such as physical therapy, fitness training, athletic conditioning and exercise science.
