Dr. Don Ashley

I am a full-time professor for Wayland Baptist University in Anchorage. I really enjoy my work, and I look forward to going to work every day. I count it a great blessing to be able to help people learn things that will help them. For me it is a joy to introduce people to Jesus Christ and help them grow in faith. A secondary goal is to help my students master those tasks that will help them in the world of work and academics.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Geology from the University of Oklahoma, and a Master's, and a Ph.D. in Christian Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

I have also worked in a psychiatric hospital on a chemical dependency unit and an eating disorders unit. After moving to Anchorage I served as a bi-vocational pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church (1992-1997). While serving as pastor at Immanuel I also worked in the field of geological engineering. A downturn in the oil industry caused me to seek another job. In 1995 I began work at Wayland Baptist University in an administrative position.

My wife and I first moved to Alaska in 1991, and we dearly love it here. We have two children, Hayden, who is eleven, and Eleanor, who is eight. In my spare time, a colleague and I are conducting research on irrational beliefs about romance and mate selection in older adolescents. We are interested in how these beliefs correspond to several dimensions of spiritual maturity.

I enjoy exercising, both aerobic and weight training, cooking, hiking and fishing. My wife enjoys woodworking so my other hobby is researching and buying tools for her shop.

My family and I are active members of Grandview Baptist Church where I currently teach an adult Bible study class. I served as interim pastor of Hillside Baptist Church in 2005, and Muldoon Road Baptist Church in 2006.
