Explanatory statement regarding a new fee starting fall 2015:
Wayland elected to reduce tuition for active duty military and institute the compliance and data services fee so that our accounting structure would reflect more accurately where the funds were actually being expended. Wayland can no longer absorb the escalating costs of complying with federal, state, and accreditation regulations that have consistently required increased needs for technology support (hardware, software, skilled personnel); researchers to compile and analyze data and prepare reports; university level points of contact and compliance coordinators; and administrators to oversee all the above. Failure to comply with requirements in any of these arenas has dire consequences for our students and the university—everything from loss of federal financial aid to loss of accreditation and the resultant degradation of the quality of education we can provide our students.
