Introducing “IQ Web”Did you know that you can now access your grades, account balance, and even your unofficial transcript on Wayland’s “IQ Web” without stepping a foot outside home?
Go to www.wbu.edu and click on the yellow “IQ Web Access” button. Enter you regular nine-digit Wayland ID (aka. your student ID number) as your login. Your password is the first four letters of your first name (in lower case), first four letters of your last name (in upper case), and last four numbers of your social security number. For example, Joseph Shmoe will enter “joseSHMO1234” as his password.
Feel free to call on of our offices if you need a hand getting in, or if you’re not sure what your student ID number is.
So, now, please, please, please, don’t come by for fall grades. It’s as easy as…well as…remembering yournine-digit student ID and your name!
Within the coming terms, you will also be able to download your degree plan and eventually register from that platform, too.
Building UpdateThe Anchorage Municipal Assembly has scheduled the zoning exemption for the move to the Parkside Center for December 13. We hope to close shortly after that, make a few changes to the building, and relocate in two to three months. This puts our tentative moving date sometime in February or March. We realize this will cause a little disruption, but the new facility will definitely be a huge improvement. Our plan is to continue to support and expand all of our current locations, with the exception of the Boniface Center, which will be relocated. We will keep you posted as events transpire.
Wayland as an Official CLEP Testing CenterBefore long, you will be able to take CLEPS at WBU! Wayland is poised to become the new Elmendorf AFB CLEP Testing Site in February or March of next year. To begin with, we will serve active duty military only, but soon hope to expand to offering CLEPS for any who are interested. We will keep you posted as we complete this new offering for our students.
Kids in ClassSorry, no children in class at any time for any reason. Our insurance liability prohibits students on campus who are not registered.
Getting to know: Dr. Fox
The newest member of our WBU fulltime faculty is English professor, Dr. Deborah Fox. She was born in Heidelberg, Germany, where her dad was stationed with the US Army. His specialty in the Army kept her family in Germany for much of Fox’s youth. While attending University of Maryland’s Munich Campus in 1981 she met her husband, Neil, whose father was an Air Force chaplain. Neil, himself, joined the Air Force in 1986.
“I think one of the strengths I’ll bring to Wayland is my understanding of transient life and the challenge that it poses to a person trying to get an education,” Fox explained.
She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in English from Utah State University in 1985, her Master’s degree in Technical and Expository Writing from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1993 and her Ph.D. in English from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia in 2004.
“I did this while raising two children and being an active duty military spouse,” she said.
Having taught at the University of Arkansas, Mat-Su College, and UAA, Fox has formed some strong views about education. She clearly distinguishes the difference between obtaining an education and actually being educated. “Obtaining an education is fairly easy nowadays. Being educated, however, is a deliberate engagement with knowledge and information,” Fox said.
She believes there is a freely proclaimed foundation that underlies the education provided by Wayland. “Christian principles never hinder the pursuit of wisdom; they enhance it and deepen the learning experience,” she said. “An education should make a better individual and I believe Wayland is dedicated to that end.”

Wayland Baptist University Forms Advisory Council
Wayland Baptist University (WBU) conducted the first formation meeting of its advisory council at a luncheon on October 20th.
Advisory council members will serve one year, initially. They will look for avenues through which WBU can improve service to students attending its Anchorage, Elmendorf, Fort Richardson, and Wasilla facilities.
For 20 years WBU has maintained a good working partnership with military educational offices and personnel in the local area. The advisory council will seek to identify new ways WBU can best meet the educational needs of employees of local businesses, municipal and state agencies, as well.
“With new facilities in Anchorage and in the Valley, as well as several new masters programs, I am excited that an advisory council can assist us in presenting Wayland Baptist University to south-central Alaska.”, said Dr. Jeff Anderson, Dean of the
Anchorage Campus.
Advisory council members will meet formally twice a year, but their input is welcomed at any time, Anderson explained.
Members of the advisory council are Gary Apperson, David Baldwin, Gregory Bendle, Randy Comer, Nancy Dahlstrom, Lyda Green, Hillary Hodges, Jim Huffman, Hayoung Gim, Gracie Jackson and Carol Smith.
