Wayland Alaska Missions

Helping the communities of Alaska while showing God's love

WAM's 2012-13 Mission Project

Wayland Alaska Missions (WAM) mission is to help the communities of Alaska. One of WAM's main goals for this year is the Galena Missions Project. This project is about helping meet the needs of the Ministries of Galena.

Two particular goals have been identified. One is to build strong relationships and friendships with the Galena Boarding school students through partnerships with ministry organizations. The youth population is enormous. Of the 700 people that call Galena home during the school year, more than 200 are teens thanks to the boarding school located there.

Working with students in a practical way through the use of the Galena Machina will assist in achieving the second goal; warmth!

Galena is an area of Alaska that can see -50OF temperatures for long periods of time during the winter. Because the area surrounding Galena is low, boggy marshland, a heavy-duty workhorse of a snow machine is needed. The machine pictured is designed with a wider tread and is built for hauling rather than sport.

Both goals can be achieved by fundraising to buy the snow machine. Working together with the students to be able to cut and haul wood for heating use instead of more expensive heating fuels would be a real blessing to the community. Working hard together for a common goal presents many opportunities to build relationships and friendships.

WAM's focus is to buy this machine and then to take a mission team out to help cut wood and build a connection between WBU-Anchorage, and the church and school in Galena .
