Navy Chief Petty Officer JOSEPH D. THORNTON, BSOE’01, who graduated from the Hawaii Campus, hs completed a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the amphibious transport ship USS Denver, home ported in San Diego. He was one of more than 10,000 Pacific Fleet Sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Battle Group and USS Belleau Wood Amphibious Ready Group. STANLEY TURNER BBA'00 He earned his Associate Degree from Community College of the Air Force 1997 in Aircraft Systems Maintenance Technology. He received his Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Business Administration from Wayland Baptist University 2000 at Eielson AFB, AK . Prior to him coming into the Housekeeping career field he served over 20 years in the U.S. Air Force in a variety of positions and he is a Desert Shield/Storm veteran serving two tours in Saudi Arabia and Oman. He has a varied background in supply management, training and human relations and has addressed numerous conferences while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He holds certifications in Hazardous Waste Awareness and in Hazardous Materials/Waste Operations accredited from Oklahoma State University. As part of his responsibility as the Director of the Medical School he manages over 45 custodians, vehicle control management, equipment operations and the Bio-hazardous and solid waste program on the campus. She developed her love for teaching while taking classes at Wayland in Clovis. She is now enrolled in classes pursuing her masters degree in education at the campus. Her husband died suddenly in August and she writes that her Wayland family became her support group that helped her begin her recovery.

Mr. and Mrs. JEREMY WALDRIP, EX'00 (BRIANNA READER, BS'00) were married July 22, 2000. Brianna is working at First Church of the Nazarene in Portland, Oregon. She is secretary for the children's department and youth department and does all the graphics work and loves it. Jeremy is a trampoline coach and loves his job. He has had a national champion every year of his competitive coaching experience. It keeps him busy and takes him all around the nation. Together, they teach children's church and are active in other areas of children's ministry, like the Christmas musical and other special events. They write that they enjoy working with the kids together. They have no children of their own but do have two dogs, a black lab and an Australian shepherd. Brianna writes that she has been published. Her pastor's wife, an editor, has included a couple of Brianna's skits in an upcoming publication, "All the Best Programs for Kids Vol. 2," published by Lillenas, and it should be released early in 2004. lives in Germany, where he plays professional basketball with the Bergheim Bandits. He began practicing with the team in August. While a member of the Pioneer Basketball team, Kendall accumulated 2,074 points and is the second Pioneer to earn 1st team All-American honors. DANN WIGNER, BA’03; MA’05, Coordinator of Distance Learning Services in the Mabee Learning Resources Center at Wayland, has had an article, “Clarity in the Midst of Confusion: Defining Mysticism,” published in Perspectives in Religious Studies, the scholarly journal of the National Association of Baptist Professors of Religion. Dann’s article appears alongside articles by full professors from schools including Baylor and Duke. Both of his degrees are in religion and in October 2008 he is to begin doctoral study at Durham University in Durham, England. ZUIGIA, the Christian band composed of Wayland graduates CLINTON STAJ, BA’00, GREG HOWLE, BA’03 and SALEM POSEY, BS’01, has settled in Australia with Clint and Greg's wives, JENNIFER AVERETT STAJ, BBA’00 and SARAH HUMBERSTONE HOWLE, BA’03. They have settled in and are trying to learn the culture and language differences. One big change has been in switching from standard to metric measure. The have already been a part of a beach mission with a group that ministers during the summer and Christmas holidays at the beach. They have also been invited to begin school concerts. Jennifer, a former Flying Queens and assistant coach for the Queens, was asked to play on a professional basketball team and from that, was invited to play on a special Australian team against the Korean national team. Although she was very nervous and just getting over an illness, she was the leading scorer with 23 points. That is opening many doors for her to share her faith with different groups of people, both Australian and internationals. The guys are trying to learn to surf since there are reportedly more surfers that people in church in Australia. They ask for the prayers of their Wayland family.
