Judy is a retired, licensed nursing home administrator. She writes that she started her work at Wayland in the summer of 1983 and it was an on again, off again proposition but she finally made it. JERRY PEREZ, MBA’03, who graduated from the Lubbock Campus, has been selected as a speaker for GridWorld Conference at the Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., September 11-14. GridWorld™ is the premier conference focused on the commercial benefits of grid computing for Enterprise IT professionals, worldwide. Jerry is a research associate for the high performance computing center at Texas Tech University. His experience includes adjunct teaching in MIS, grid computing, computer programming, and systems analysis for Wayland. He has 5 years corporate experience as senior product engineer at Texas Instruments. Jerry holds a BS in organizational management from Lubbock Christian University, an M.B.A. from Wayland, and is currently working on his PhD in computer science with an emphasis in information systems. Jerry has authored or co-authored several papers on the implementation of grids to support a variety of specific application areas, including digital rights, security, physics, bioinformatics and engineering. Other synergistic activities include: participation in the development and deployment of a multi-organizational campus-wide compute grid at Texas Tech (TechGrid); lead for deployment of commercial grid technologies with TTU Business, Physics, Computer Science, and Mathematics departments; collaboration in SURAgrid (Southeastern Universities Research Association Grid), including contribution to the white paper, SURAgrid Authorization/Authorization: Concepts & Technologies and a soon to be released SURA Grid Cookbook. In his position, he is to link the kids to their therapy and doctors appointments, meet with their teachers at least once each week, meet with the parents each week and update all the files weekly with progress reports. Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of Lt. Col. ALBERT SMART, BSOE’03, who died in May, 2005, while serving in Afghanistan. His death was non-combat related and according to ABC News, he died of a heart attack. Albert was buried in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery with full military honors. He was commissioned as an Infantry Officer and was Airborne and Ranger certified.
