JOHN PAULSON, BSOE’95, who graduated from the Alaska Campus in Anchorage, is a certified addictions counselor for Illinois, Iowa and nationally. DAVID PILLMAN, BSOE’94 who graduated from the San Antonio Campus, and his family have moved to Manila where he has been assigned to the American Embassy as information management officer. He returned in June from the American Embassy in London where he completed a two year assignment. David recently received two Superior Honor Awards, one for being key player in the planning, development and delivery of the first ever European Junior Foreign Service Officer conference held in London. The second Superior Honor Award was for sustained superior performance during the untimely death of two section colleagues. His efforts helped the embassy sustain superior telecommunications during the six month time period. He recently received tenure on the first time before the selection board and was promoted to FS 4-10 ( equivalent to GS-14) He and his family left London in June for a week of consultations in Washington D.C., followed by a 6 we ek home leave in Hawaii. WADE PINSON, BA’98, MED’03, is currently attending the Saba University School of Medicine. He earned a master’s degree in hyperbaric medicine and is soon to publish an article on a clinical trial in the Journal of The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine Society. Wade passed his medical licensure exam and is currently doing a rotation in internal medicine at St. Luke’s Hospital and the Mid-America Heart Institute in Kansas City, Mo. JOY PRATT, BA’97, has been serving as a missionary counselor in Paraguay for the past few months but is praying about her next steps. Joy has suffered asthma problems since arriving in the South American country, which she attributes to the high pollution from diesel-fueled cars. She is in prayer about whether to move to another country to continue her ministry to missionary families, take a leave of absence and then pursue another ministry opportunity in another country, or resign from the mission and return to the states. She has been serving through Latin American Mission. She spent two weeks in the U.S. in November taking a class toward her doctorate degree in Indiana and enjoying Thanksgiving with her family. JACOB REED, BS’98, was married on July 8, 2005, to Georgia Williams in Tahoka and the wedding was witnessed by a host of friends and family members. The Reeds are in the states until October when they will return to Karamoja where they serve as missionaries under auspices of the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. During August and September, they are scheduled for speaking engagements in churches, Bible study group and hope to visit many friends and family. They are excited to share what is God is doing among the Karamojong. They are a very poor people and since there has been no rain, many have lost all their crops. Walter plans to retire form the Air Force next year with over 21 years of service, and will relocate to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. MISTI McGEE SHELTON, BA’96, and husband Anthony have been appointed as missionaries to Uganda by the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. The commissioning service was held on May 23, 2006, at Hoffmantown Baptist Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Misti and Anthony were married on June 19, 1999 and have two daughters, Karis Anastasia, 3 and Sophia Alena, 2. Misti has served as a public school teacher in Texas for Fort Worth ISD and Birdville ISD, in New Jersey for Ewing Township Public Schools and for Lakeside Schools in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Anthony has been completing his PhD at Princeton School of Theology in science and theology. They were scheduled for August and September in Richmond at the IMB's Missionary Learning Center for Field Personel Orientation and anticipated leaving for Uganda in mid-October. Anthony's assignment is a Church Developer working specifically on university campuses in the capital city of Kamapala. The main university for East Africa is in Kampala, and has about 30,000 students. Misti is excited to be a full time mommy to their two daughters. He has been hired as a sessional instructor at Yukon College where he has studied during the past year and is working on becoming an immigrant. Dr. VIOLA AUSTIN SWINT, BSOE’90, who graduated from the Hawaii Campus, has been appointed as pastor of Adonai Christian Fellowship Church of God in Honolulu. After Wayland, she earned her masters of counseling in psychology marriage and family. She also has a master of divinity degree from Fuller and her doctorate of Christian letters and doctor of ministry degree from Shiloh Theological Seminary.
