Son Andrew, who graduated in June from La Cueva High School, is attending New Mexico Tech where he is pursuing a degree in mechanical engineering. MARC FARMER, BSOE’99, who graduated from the Lubbock Campus, has been named by Market Lubbock Inc. as director of business recruitment for the city-appointed economic development corporation. He had worked for the past three years as business/finance manager for Gene Messer Ford. He had also been branch manager at City Bank for five years. Marc was selected from more than 30 applicants. Dr. TOM FISHER, BA’90, who serves as assistant to the dean and instructor in religion at the San Antonio Campus, has undergone treatment for cancer and is in complete remission. His prognosis is very positive and he has begun maintenance protocol. Wife Kelly works for Judson Independent School District and is completing her degree at the San Antonio Campus. They have three sons: Matthew, 21, who works for Sysco Food Service and is a sophomore at University of Louisville; Timothy, 19, a Wayland sophomore art major at the Plainview Campus; and Zachary, 10, a fourth grader at Converse Elementary School. LEOVARDO “LEO” FLORES, BSOE’92, who graduated from the San Antonio Campus, is in full time evangelism and has begun the Leo Flores Evangelistic Association. JERRIE ANNE FORTUNE, BM’90, was married on May 30, 2004, to Joe Salvato at her home church in Sheffield, Texas. Joe is from New York and they met almost three years ago at Multnomah Seminary. Both of them are involved in a ministry called House of Myrrh Ministries where they are training assistants in an intense inner healing workshop called Heart Change. They will live in the Portland area where the ministry is located and where Jerrie Anne works at a rehabilitation and recovery program for homeless women and children, Shepherd’s Door. Mr. and Mrs. MARK GARCIA, BA’94 (MELODY TEEL, BS’94) live in Eagle Pass, Texas, where she is a teacher/coach for Eagle Pass ISD and he is a patrol agent for the U.S. Border Patrol with the Department of Homeland Security. They have three children, Aiden, 9, Riane, 8 and Caleb, 5. Melody teaches physics and chemistry and coaches volleyball at Eagle Pass High School and also coaches a private club volleyball team that is undefeated. Mark also coaches a private club team that is doing very well. Both parents coach their kid’s volleyball, basketball and softball/teeball teams. Mr. and Mrs. TIM GARCIA, BA’90 (CONNIE SCOTT, EX’90) celebrated their 12th anniversary in April. They have a son, DeForest, 10, who is an avid hockey player and fan. Tim is in his 10th year as a member of the protective force at Pantex and his 7th year as a special weapons and tactics team member. Connie has temporarily put her master's degree aside to assume the position of director at the Faith City Mission Women's and Family Shelter. She oversees the daily operations of the shelter in addition to teaching spiritual growth classes, ministering, and counseling the residents of the shelter. MYRA GATES, BA’93, lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she has bought her first home and loves it. She is ministry assistant in the Music, Student, Recreation and Family Ministries at the Baptist Convention of New Mexico. She works with music ministers, a music group called New Mexico Singing Churchmen, seven summer camps (of which 2 are music camps), 8 campus ministers and BSU Ministry. They are also preparing for a two-week trip to Thailand next summer. In her spare time, Myra serves as youth choir director at Del Norte Baptist Church in Albuquerque and sings in the praise team. GLENN GOLDWATER, MBA’93, was recognized by Mayor Windy Sitton and the Lubbock City Council upon his retirement in December, 2001, as Lubbock District Fire Chief after 33 years service to the city. Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of EMILIO GONZALES, BA’96, who died on January 5, 2005. Emilio suffered a brain aneurism. THOMAS GRUBB, BSOE’91, who graduated from the Alaska Campus at Fort Wainwright, has moved back to Minnesota, the area where he was raised. He retired from the military in 1986 and moved back in 1994. She is NCOIC in the orderly room. Adrienne completed her master of arts degree in public administration last December through Webster University. MICHELLE HAAGE, BS’99, continues to be “hostess and tour guide” for Wayland friends visiting her in Australia. Visitors in the spring for 10 days were DAVID, BA’97, and SONIA NICHOLAS SPLAWN, BS’97. David and Sonia are teaching English in Southeast Asia. Everyone reports a good time “down under.” Michelle was a member of the Australian team that competed in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England, July 25 – August 4. Michelle placed 8th out of 20 women in the qualifying round and 11th in final competition. The Australian team won the overall medal tally with 207, followed by England with 165, Canada with 116, India with 69 and New Zealand with 45. Michelle says that she had a fantastic time and a wonderful experience competing before 40,000 people cheering for your country. She says that all the training made it worthwhile, she learned a lot and will and will draw on that experience in preparation for her next international competition. TERESA HOOD, BSOE’93, who graduated from the Fairbanks Campus, has been selected as one of 12 finalists in the California Troops to Teachers “Teacher of the Year” recognition program.  Teresa was one of the guests of honor at a formal banquet in San Diego for her significant honor.  She was one of the top three elementary teachers in California recognized for the award.  Of the 12 finalists, Teresa was the only woman so honored.  She is a teacher in the Irving Branch Elementary School in the Murdoc Joint Unified School District.  (3225 Marble Street, Rosamond, CA  93560-7647)
