JAMES H. “JIMMY” RANDLES, BSOE’85, the first graduate of Wayland’s San Antonio campus, retired in 1999 after a career with Diamond Shamrock which ended with his serving as manager of fleet services in San Antonio. Jimmy and his wife Margie, to whom he has been married for 42 years, have moved to Granbury, a suburb of Fort Worth. VIRGIL REAGINS, BS’89, lives in the Dallas area. He is human resources generalist for Werner Enterprises, Inc. in Dallas. Virgil and wife Iris, an instructional specialist with Fort Worth Independent School District, have two sons, Michael Channing and John Chancellor, both two-years old. Virgil, a former Pioneer, is still associated with basketball and is entering his 10th year as an NCAA college basketball official. He is a member of the Dallas Human Resource Management Association and is preparing to take the Professional Human Resource Certification Examination (PHR). Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of EMBREE GALE SADLER, MBA’86, an emeritus Southern Baptist missionary to Tanzania, who died November 22, 2003. Gale and his wife Verna were appointed by the International Mission Board in 1987. He ran a book store and managed a literature distribution center in Moshi, Tanzania, until 1990, when he became the financial administrator for the organization of Southern Baptist missionaries in the country. The couple retired in 2001. A graduate of Texas Tech University, Sadler worked as an engineer for U.S. Gypsum Company until he returned home to operate the family farm. When he sensed God's call to missions in the early 1980s, he returned to college and earned a masters degree in business administration from Wayland.

TOM SARGENT, BSOE’84, who graduated from the Wichita Falls Campus, is a radio production specialist for the Voice of America in Washington D.C. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a military broadcaster in 1987 and he plans to retire from Voice of America in 2005. DEBBIE FLETCHER SERVICE, BA’80, is one of 210 journalism teachers nationwide chosen to receive the American Society of Newspaper Editors fellowship. She is a journalism teacher at Jefferson Davis High School in Houston and attended institute sessions at University of Texas/Austin in July. Debbie has begun assisting with Houston’s only internet campus newspaper as well as advising Harris County’s first CD yearbook. Another benefit of the fellowship and institute is that Debbie earned graduate credit toward her doctorate degree. Other benefits included subscriptions to The Houston Chronicle, American Journalism Review, The American Editor, and Columbia Journalism Review, and paid memberships in the Journalism Education Association and Jtexas Association of Journalism Educators as well as several textbooks. This is Debbie’s second national recognition as a journalism educator. Last year, she won a grant from the Michael Jordan Fundamentals Grant Program. Debbie earned her masters degree in journalism from University of Texas/Austin in 1993. Before moving to Houston, she taught at Stephen F. He has been voted as 'Most Professional Nurse' twice by Student Nurses from Midland College. He also spends part of his free time helping with the local Boy Scouts of America as a committee member and he has helped with BSA camps in Texas, Oklahoma, and Colorado. CHRISTENA PARKER STEPHENS, BA’87, lives in Sundown, Texas, where she is Mallett Ranch Preservation Grant Director. An article in the Lubbock Avalanche Journal on April 11 announced a grant of $20,000 for Christena to focus on the restoration of the sprawling 50,000 acre ranch, once a thriving ranch that covered 128,000 acres across Hockley, Terry, Cochran and Yoakum counties. She earned her MS degree in interdisciplinary studies in museum science, wildlife biology and management and anthropology in 2005. Cristena is a certified interpretive guide through the National Association of Interpretation. Her new grant was awarded through the CH Foundation through the Sundown Historical Preservation Society. She is married to Barry Stephens, the newly appointed Sundown City Administrator. They have four, rare-breed dogs. A student’s essay praising Stephens for his concern about and belief in his students was a deciding factor. Ronda has taken a job with Sinton Independent School District as director of curriculum and technology integration. Stoney has accepted a position with Texas A&M Kingsville as school performance advisor and is traveling to 17 different high schools working to improve their math TAKS scores. The Stoneciphers have two children, both A students, Kelsey, 14 and Ty, 11, who are active in band and swimming. Kelsey ran in the Beach to Bay Marathon on May 21. Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of DON D. TAYLOR, BSOE’88, who died on November 25, 2006, in Canyon, Texas. He was a businessman in Trenton, Missouri before moving to Texas. After his graduation from Wayland, he worked for West Texas A&M University as executive director of the WTAMU Enterprise Network and served as president and CEO of Data Star Communications. Don was a well known civic leader and was an internationally recognized business analyst, author and specialist in the areas of business survival and fast growth companies. For several years, he wrote the column "Minding Your Own Business" which appeared weekly in more than 150 newspapers and trade publications. He conceived and coauthored "Up Against the Wal-Marts", first edition and recently authored "Up Against the Wal-Marts", second edition, wrote "Solid Gold Success Strategies for Your Business," was a contributing author in "Confessions of a Shameless Self Promoter" and at the time of his death was writing two fiction novels. Don was also a professional speaker and had received the Distinguished Leadership and Communication Award from Toastmasters International and was honored with the Distinguished Alumni Leadership Award from the Association of Former Students at Wayland. He was recognized by Auburn University as a Distinguished Speaker in Business and received the Distinguished Leadership Award from West Texas A&M University. He was a professional member of several national associations. Brenda and Bill both work at NASA Mission Control Center. He is a flight dynamics officer for the shuttle and she works in procedures management. Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of Dr. KELLY WASON, BS’81, who died in a plane crash on May 20. Kelly, an experienced pilot, and his passenger were both killed. He was a professor in the College of Business Administration at Tarleton State University and was a principal consultant for ViaClear Consulting Group. He worked in the high technology sector of the industry conducting strategic marketing plans, demand forecasting, comparative performance audits and market product breakdowns. Kelly also conducted graduate seminars on marketing strategy and managing information systems for the Department of Defense in England, Italy, Sicily and Germany. He was highly regarded by his colleagues at Tarleton and pilot friends in the Stephenville area. Among his survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Wason of Plainview, and two daughters, Sarah, 15 and Emily, 12.
MAKITO WATANABE, BA’85, is Japanese language pastor of Olivet Baptist Church in Honolulu, Hawaii. After graduating from Wayland, Makito graduated from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary and pastured Sapporo Baptist Church in Japan from 1988 to 1994 and was pastor of Tokiwadai Baptist Church in Tokyo from 1994-2000. He and his family moved to Honolulu in March, 2002. His family includes wife Chie, daughter Sharon Hikari, 9 and son Casey Keishi, 7. The family enjoys church and school activities in Honolulu. Mr. and Mrs. MARK WATT, BM’82 (CYNDY WAKEFIELD, BA’81) live in Mission, Texas, where they recently celebrated their 23rd wedding anniversary. They have been in the Rio Grande Valley for 13 years and Mark was band director at Mission High School for 11 years when the band earned their first sweepstakes awards in 5A under his direction. The band had not won a sweepstakes award since Mission was a 3A school in the late 1960’s. He served a three year term as TMEA Band Division vice chairman for Region XV and two years as chairman for the region. Two years ago, he accepted the position as band director at B.L. Gray Junior High School in the Sharyland ISD so that he could work about 20 hours a week less. Cyndy and the family love the change and having Mark around more. Cyndy is a homemaker and mother to their seven children: Nathan, 17, Benjamin, 14, Joseph, 12, Caleb, 10, Isaac, 7, Micah Grace, 4 and Peter, 2. Num ber 8 is due the middle of February! Cyndy homeschools the children with the exception of Nathan who is a senior at Sharyland High School in Mission where he is ranked first or second in his class. He was homeschooled through the 8th grade. The family is active at Baptist Temple in McAllen where Mark serves as deacon, Sunday school teacher, cell group facilitator, director of the church orchestra and as an EE trainer. He also serves as chaplain for the local Gideon’s camp. Cyndy heads the benevolence ministry at the church and is also an EE trainer. Nathan and Benjamin are certified EE trainers and, along with Joseph, are active in the youth group and in sharing the gospel. Nathan is a youth cell facilitator. GENTRY WELCH, BBA’89 and husband David have returned to their mission
post in Taiwan after a quick trip to the states in May for a medical problem.
A large tumor on David’s pituitary gland was found and surgery was needed.
They flew to Pensacola, Florida, David’s home area, where the surgery
was successfully performed on May 30. The surgeons repaired a deviated septum
and then removed the tumor. After David’s recuperation, the Welchs returned

They lived in Orlando, Florida for a year but have moved back to Texas. Pam’s son, Justin, is a sophomore at Texas Tech University. While living in Orlando, Pam met D’LESA GARNETT CARROLL, BA’83, for lunch while she was in the area on business.
