JOYCE MERRILL OGLESBY, BS’66, and husband Jim have bought and remodeled a home in Farmington, New Mexico. They attend First Baptist Church in Bloomfield where she sings in the choir and Jim is an usher. The church recently commissioned their pastor, Dr. Joseph Bunce, to serve as Executive Director of the Baptist Covention of New Mexico and Joyce says that he will do a terrific job. KATRINA PARK, BA’67, still lives in Ruidoso, N.M., where she recently joined the staff at First Baptist Church as children’s director. She had been working as a reading specialist at Sierra Vista Elementary after retiring in Texas from 30-plus years of teaching. She has been a longtime active church member wherever she has lived and was active at FBC in several programs already before joining the staff. JOHN PATTERSON, BS’63, lives in Hewitt, Texas, a suburb of Waco, with wife Cara. He is a physical therapist and owns Body Mechanics in Waco. After teaching in public school systems for 8 years, he received his masters degree from Midwestern State University and worked as a psychologist for 7 years. He moved to Waco and worked for Texas Rehabilitation Commission as a counselor serving clients with mental and behavioral problems and became interested in physical rehabilitation. John went back to school and became certified in that area. He worked with Baylor athletic department for two years before starting his private practice and has worked with various athletic teams including the Atlanta Falcons. John and Cara have two daughters and four grandchildren, two four-year olds, a 7 month old and a three week old. SANDRA WILSON PENN, BA'69, is a retired social worker who lives in Amarillo. As a Wayland student, she worked in the Registrar's Office under AUDREY BOLES. Sandra writes that at age 27, she came to Wayland as a widow and it helped her start her life over. "Although 10 years older than the other freshmen, I lived in the dorm which allowed me to get to know other students and make some wonderful friends," she says. After getting her degree in social studies, Sandra earned her master's degree in social work and she began working for the State of Texas in Children's Protective Service, a career of 25 years which took her all over the Amarillo and Lubbock area. SUZANNE MARTIN PERRY, BA’69, lives in San Angelo, Texas, where she has begun working part time at Shannon Medical Center. Mr. and Mrs. NEIL PORTER, BA'66 (MARY ELLEN BARKER, BA'54) live in Platte City, Missouri, where he is retired. Mary Ellen went to Minsk, Bella Russe with the Missouri WMU on May 28th and returned on June 8th. They took Bibles and tracts with them, some of which they gave to a Baptist church in Moscow. Two days after Mary Ellen's return, Neil had shortness of breath and slight chest pain. He called the doctor, went to the emergency room, and on June 14th, he had a quadruple bypass. CHARLIE PRIDMORE, BA'67, has moved to Caracas, Venezuela, where he is pastor of the United Christian Church, an international, interdenomination, English speaking congregation. He made the move just over a year ago from the same type church in Manila. Rev. DALE PRUETT, BA’61, died on April 1, 2004, in Kempner, Texas. He was a longtime Baptist minister and was serving as pastor of the Korean Baptist Church-English Congregation of Copperas Cove at the time of his death. He was a member of Southern Hills Baptist Church of Copperas Cove. Dale and wife Betty Sue, whom he met during a youth revival at First Baptist Church, Seminole, Texas, had been married for 43 years. Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of CUBA HARVEY PUTNAM, BA’67, who died on April 8, 2003. She had a massive stroke following a brain hemorrhage. Cuba had been a special education teacher and she and husband Joe raised champion border collies. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son and daughter. DAVID RAMOS, BA’69, lives in Florida with wife Marta, to whom he has been married for 36 years. They have two grown sons, David and Michael, who work with him in his business. David worked for two multinational companies for 31 years. He was director of international with National Gypsum Company where she spent 25 years and was vice president with Rinker Material Corporation for six years. He traveled extensively throughout the world to such countries as Israel, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, France, Italy, Spain, Hong-Kong, China, Taiwan, Philippines, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Panama, Uruguay, Paraguay, Chile, Lebanon, Poland, and others. David now owns his own company that distribute building products in Central, South America and the Caribbean and the entire family is involved in the day to day operation of International Building Products Corporation. David’s sister, Dr. ELIZABETH RAMOS MEDINA, BA’65, lives in Boulder, Colorado, and has three daughters. David’s father, a retired Baptist minister, is 92 years old and still very active in the church in Miami. David writes that he would “like to thank Wayland Baptist University, the faculty, administration and the churches of the area that gave me the opportunity to obtained and education for which JI will always be grateful. JO JAYROE REED, EX’67, is a busy lady. She volunteers for the Central Plains Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, helps children with reading in several of the elementary schools, and gives manicures and instructs arts and crafts classes for a local nursing home. Wayland Baptist University campus in San Antonio. She and husband Thomas, retired
career military, have three children including Meredith Rockeymoore Brooks who
received the MD degree in May, 2003, from Johns Hopkins University. Meredith
is doing her internship at Alameda County Highland Hospital in Oakland, California.

Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of STEVE SALLEE, EX’62, who died on May 10, 2002. Stephen had been confined to a wheelchair for 40 years as a result of a diving accident in the summer of 1962. In spite of being a partial quadriplegic, he received his BS and MS degrees from the University of Oklahoma and his EdS degree from Appalachian State University. He taught college biology in Kansas and North Carolina for several years. Steve had to quit teaching in 1981 because he was forced him to spend more time in bed. After moving to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Steve named and helped start the Adaptables, a support group for handicapped people. He was active in amateur radio clubs and computer clubs. He first worked as a volunteer and later as a half-time employee for the North Carolina Assistive Technology Program, helping to set up demonstration labs of both high-tech and low-tech equipment for people with all types of disabilities. During the last few years, he did most of his work from bed by typing information and records on the computer and by making telephone calls. His mind remained sharp until the end. Among his survivors are his wife, ATHENE WEDDINGTON SALLEE, BA’62, who teaches at Forsyth Technical Community College in Winston-Salem, and a son, Mark Sallee, who lives in Longmont, Colorado. Dr. and Mrs. TED SANDERS, BS’64 (BEVERLY McSWAIN, BA’66) have moved from Denver to Plainview. Ted had been serving as president of the Education Commission of the States, an interstate compact which conducts research to assist state policy-makers in developing education policy. He has recently been named as executive chairman of Cardean Learning Group, a prominent online education company. Cardean is the new name of UNext Inc. relecting its continued expansion and commitment to providing the most innovative and highest quality online education programs for all of the world’s populations. UNext introduced Cardean University and the online MBA program in September 2000. This premier program was developed in cooperation with Columbia University, University of Chicago Business School, Stanford Business School, Carnegie Mellon and the London School of Economics. Of his new position, Ted says, “I’m very excited to guide the company in revolutionizing how real people gain access to quality undergraduate and graduate degrees. We will continue to define what quality on-line learning is and place it within the reach of everyone. The demand for education and training is beyond what conventional institutions can provide and we must address this dilemma.” Ted, an educator experienced throughout the Kindergarten through Graduate spectrum, started his career as a classroom teacher more than 40 years ago and has since served as the United States Deputy Secretary of Education in the first Bush Administration, the chief state school officer in Nevada, Illinois and Ohio, and the president of Southern Illinois University. Dr. and Mrs. BOB SARTAIN, BS’61 (JAN BUTLER, EX’62) were picture in the Baptist Standard, state newspaper of the Baptist General Convention of Texas, in January, 2006. Bob had completed 55 years of perfect attendance in Sunday School classes of churches where he has been a member through the years. Jan has 25 years of perfect attendance. Her record was curtailed due to illnesses in the family along the way. Their children also emulated the perfect attendance records. Oldest sone, Tim, had 23 years before he missed. Younger son, Dave, achieved 30 years and daughter Melissa marked 13 years before missing a Sunday School class. Bob is chair of the mathematics department at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas and serves a minister of music at First Baptist Church in May. Mr. and Mrs. PAUL SIEBENMANN, BS'60 (PEGGY SUE BECKETT, EX'60) are still serving as missionaries in the Dominican Republic under auspices of the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Paul works with pastors and the theological program at the seminary and Peggy works with children's ministries and the national council of the Baptist Women's Missionary Organization. She resigned from her post as executive secretary of the organization but has continued to work with the council as a consultant. At the seminary, Paul is cutting back on his work and The Convention is actively seeking a new director of the theological program because they realize that hw will be leaving permanently next year. In December, Paul and Peggy went to Puerto Plato to take part in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the church that God helped them to found. DARLENE RAINEY SMITH, EX’65, lives in Amarillo where she is school nurse at Crockett Middle School. She completed her RN degree at Northwest Texas School of Nursing. They have recently completed restoration on Pete’s 100-year-old family ranch home. JIMMYE BLAKNEY SMITH, BA’64, retired in 2000 after 27 years as secretary and then paralegal for an attorney in the Los Angeles area. Husband Gordon had retired in 1993 after 27 years with the Probation Department for the County of Los Angeles. In February, 2005, they decided that they would like to move out of the LA area and flew to Hot Springs, Arkansas to look for a house. MONTE HOWARD SMITH, BS’62, is retired and living in Plainview. As a retired teacher, she is an active volunteer with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). Monte volunteers at church, the Senior Citizens Center and with the Girl Scouts. She enjoys visiting nursing homes, is active with the Hale County Historical Society and the Retired Teachers. She was a retired elementary and junior high school teacher and also taught piano. Nita had been director of the BSU at East Central University from 1949-50. Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of Dr. RONNY TURNER, EX’64, who died suddenly at his home in Fort Collins, Colorado on July 13, 2003. He was professor of sociology at Colorado State University where he had taught since 1969 after completing his doctorate at State University of New York in Buffalo. He was regarded as a master teacher by his colleagues and his students and won numerous awards for his teaching. In 1996-97, he received the Best of Colorado State University: Best Professor and Best Courses. In 1999 he was awarded the Oliver P. Pennock Distinguished Service Award in recognition of meritorious and outstanding achievement, one of the highest honors a Colorado State University employee can receive. Ronny’s widow, the former JOELLA TWEEDY, EX’63, continues to live in Fort Collins and is a speech and hearing pathologist at Poudre Valley Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. DICK WALDREN, BS’60 (EVYLENA SMITH, BS’60) are enjoying their retirement and traveling in their motor home. They spent the month of May in Florida visiting friends and sightseeing before moving to Georgia for a couple of weeks and then on to western North Carolina. Their daughter Deb has been having anaphylactic reactions for a year and a half, so she was scheduled for an appointment at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, so they picked her up in Nashville, Tennessee, and headed north. From Rochester, they drove across northern Minnesota and into Michigan, spent July 4 on Mackinaw Island in Lake Huron, and even attended a Waldren family reunion in Coldwater, Michigan, where Dick’s father was born. They toured Indiana and Kentucky and attended a Mountain Home, Idaho church reunion in Franklin, Tennessee, before heading to Wichita, Kansas, for the surgery of a niece, via Carthage, Missouri, where they visited the Precious Moments Chapel. They left their motor home in Wichita for repairs and drove their car to Dallas to visit their grandson, Ben, and his parents. They were scheduled to pick up their motor home about August 1 and head northwest with plans to be in the Portland, Oregon, area by September 1 and the celebration of Dick’s mother’s 90th birthday. HIRO WATANABE, EX’67, lives in Dallas where he is a freelance Japanese interpreter with about 40-50 corporate clients. He has a son, Michael Sean and three lhasa apso dogs. Rev. LARRY L. WILSON, BA’68, and wife Barbara were honored with a reception commemorating their Golden Wedding Anniversary on June 5, 2004, in Hopkinsville, Kentucky at First Baptist Church. The event was hosted by their three sons, Dr. TIM WILSON, BA’77, TED WILSON, BS’79, and Dr. JIM WILSON, BA’81, their daughters-in-law and six grandchildren. Larry and Barbara were married on May 28, 1954 in Yuma, Arizona. Larry surrendered to the ministry and came to Wayland with four children. He served as pastor in Forreston , Mayfield, Silverton, Edmonson, Fort Worth and Arkansas before retiring and moving to Kentucky. He has remained active in the ministry and has served as interim pastor at several churches. The Wilsons’ sons presented them with an Alaskan cruise. LYNNA WILSON WOOD, BA’67, has retired after a teaching career spanning some 31 years. Her last position was a librarian at Claude, Texas, Independent School District. She writes that she has loved “teaching everything under the sun,” from kindergarten through 8th grade. Lynna has taught music classes, directed middle school and high school choir, staged “tons of plays,” and spending the last 8 years in the library. Mr. and Mrs. GARRY WRIGHT, BS'69 (DONNA RUDD, BS'69) have had a busy and exciting year. Donna began a new job with Texas Tech University and began recruiting for the TTU Center in Seville, Spain. She began in the fall with no students and questionable prospects and by the spring semester, she sent 45 students to Spain. By the time for the summer semester, she had recruited 60 students. So on May 5, she went to Spain to help with the students. As soon as high school was out and JROTC Summer Camp was over, Garry joined her in time for a five-day tour with the last summer class. While Donna was tying up loose ends, Garry headed to the archives of the Indies to do research on a brand new dissertation subject. Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of DWAYNE YOUNG, EX’61, who lost a valiant fight against brain cancer on May 25, 2005 at his home in Artesia, New Mexico. In addition to Wayland, he also attended Northwestern University in Chicago and College of Santa Fe where he completed both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. His loyalties and support always were with Wayland. His careers included banking and working for F.D.I.C.; music teacher at Santa Fe Preparatory School; choir director at First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe; accounting at Santa Fe and Northern N.M. Community Colleges; and owner and operator of Santa Clara Inn and Abrigo Real Estate in Santa Fe. He returned to Artesia in 1992 where he owned and operated Valley Moving and Storage. He was a talented musician who played the piano, organ and harp and was a tenor soloist. He started playing at First Baptist Church at age 14 and had played and directed choirs for several area churches. Dwayne came to Wayland on a music scholarship and sang in the International Choir. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Roswell, N.M., and First Baptist and First United Methodist Churches in Artesia. He was also a member of Rotary Club, Artesia Arts Council, Artesia Community Chorale and Artesia Community Theatre. Among his survivors are his mother, a daughter, a son, a brother, two grandchildren and his caretaker and companion, Kathleen Karstedt.
