Dr. RON KILLINGSWORTH, BA’68, lives in Wichita Falls with wife, Linda, where Ron is pastor of Rephidim Church. Ron sent some interesting information about Matador Hall. He told us his dad attended Wayland in 1918 as a U.S. Army recruit, but the War ended before he could finish, and he was simply sent home. While later visiting Wayland with his dad and with anticipation of attending himself, Ron related his dad telling him about Matador Hall being a girls dorm. After classes, marching drills and evening meals were over, the young recruits would come out on the lawn in front of Matador and march smartly up and down in order to show off for the girls. All the girls would come out on the balcony and watch, giggle and point out their favorites. However, there was little or no contact allowed between the boys and the girls in those days. Ron then had his own experience with Matador. He worked in Wayland’s maintenance department and helped refurbish by painting all floors with a thick gray deck paint and a 4 inch paint brush. Even though the demolition of Matador has saddened many alumni, Ron understands. (4907 Marsha Lane, Wichita Falls, Texas 76302; Email: Rephidim@wf.net)
