She served as church secretary at First Baptist Church of Danville, Arkansas, for 30 years and taught Sunday School for many years. Morleen helped with Meals on Wheels in Danville, volunteered with the Baptist Student Union at Arkansas Tech University, was a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs and of the American Legion. Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of ERMA FULKERSON BOENIG, AA'41, who died on April 8, 2000. She lived in New Braunfels, Texas, with husband Roland. They were married on Easter Sunday, 1946, at First Baptist Church, Plainview. Besides her church, Erma was active in bridge clubs, a home demonstration club, was a visitors counselor for the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce and was a docent for the Sophienburg Museum. Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of Dr. CHARLES A. BOND, EX’41, who died on March 2nd. Dr. Bond was a retired faculty member of Ferris State College in Big Rapids, Michigan. He received his baccalaureate degree from Stanford University, a master’s from the University of Detroit, and a doctorate at Wayne State University. He was living in Big Rapids at the time of his death.

Mr. and Mrs. LEE BROCK, EX’43 (DELLA PATTERSON, AA’42) live in Goldendale, Washington, where he is a retired pastor and she is a retired teacher.  They have work in pioneer mission work in the northwest for over 50 years.  Two of their four children, BUDDY BROCK, BS’67, and JOLENE BROCK SANDERS, BS’78, also graduated from Wayland.  Lee and Della’s most vivid memory of Wayland was becoming engaged at the old proposal post.  (714 Whitney Court, Goldendale, WA  98620  E-mail:  leebrock@gorge.net)

Mr. And Mrs. W.C. “DUB” BRYANT, EX’40 (EVELYN, EX’38) live in Missoula, Montana. He has served Baptist churches and the Southern Baptist domination for more than 60 years and says that he loved every minute of it. His heart and his passion has been western missions. Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of MARY BETH WOODELL BURT, AA’44, who died on September 3, 2001. She received her bachelor’s degree in 1946 from Oklahoma Baptist University and returned to Eunice, New Mexico, where she married and taught in the public school system for 25 years. EDWIN CAMP, EX’47, is retired and living in Buckeye, Arizona. He was an executive in the construction business from which he retired in 1987 to a medium sized farm. In 1998, he downsized to a 20 acre plot adjacent to his home where he keeps a few cattle and raises some hay to keep himself busy. Edwin writes that the Lord has been good to him, that he has good health and a wonderful family with four grown daughters and several grandchildren. He was widowed in 1999 after a wonderful marriage. MILDRED CRABTREE, AA’42, lives in Amarillo at Park Place Towers, just across the street from First Baptist Church where she is an active member. She is on the Mission Amarillo Committee, a member of the Christian Women Job Corps and until recently taught an adult Sunday School Class. She volunteers as hostess in the dining room at Park Place once a week and serves on the committee that plans Sunday evening vespers. LATRICE ELLIS DAVIS, AA'45, has retired as church secretary at East Fourth Baptist Church in Big Spring. She had served the church for 55 years. Latrice had served 15 pastors and at least six interims during her tenure. The church honored her with a reception in November. (423 Hillside Drive, Big Spring, TX 79720)

Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of E. MILFORD DENDY, EX’41, who died on January 18, 2003, in Ralls, Texas. After graduating from Ralls High School, he had attended Wayland on a football scholarship until he joined the U.S. Army during World War II where he earned several medals including three bronze stars. Milford was a member of First Baptist Church of Ralls and was commander of the Petersburg American Legion.

Dr. ERNEST N. DUNCAN, AA'44 retired in 1991 after serving as pastor at Fairview Baptist Church in Grand Prairie, Texas, for 40 years. He has served as interim at several church in the area and is now serving as interim at Kessler Park Baptist Church in Oak Cliff in Dallas. He has served as moderator for Dallas Baptist Association and as chairman of the Executive Board of the BGCT. Ernest has enjoyed pastoring and serving people. Ernest writes that when he entered Wayland he brought his two cows from his farm in New Mexico and put them in a pasture west of the administration building with two other cows owned by the agriculture teacher. EVA BURKETT FISHER, AA’46, lives in California with husband J.L., a retired architect. After Wayland, Eva attended West Texas State for one year and then earned her bachelor’s degree from Howard Payne. She taught school in Klondike, San Angelo and Plainview before moving to California where she taught at Selby Lane School in San Mateo. Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of VERNON L. JACKSON, AA’40, who died on May 21, 2003, at his residence in Las Cruces, New Mexico. He will be missed. Vernon kept in touch with many, many Wayland friends and Classmates. After graduating from Wayland, he earned his bachelors degree from Hardin Simmons University and his masters degree from Texas Tech. Vernon always remained loyal to Wayland and more than 20 family members have attended the school beginning with his father-in-law, ISAAC WILSON HICKS, who started to Wayland academy during its first year of operation in 1910. Vernon, a veteran of the U.S. Army, was director of the Boys Club in Lubbock from 1945 to 1965, then moved to Las Cruces where he was director of the Boys Club for 9 years. His wife, MARY WILSON HICKS JACKSON, AA’40, died in 1993. Christian love and sympathy to LOLA FARNSWORTH KERR, AA’41, at the death of her husband, James, who was killed on October 27, 2004. Dr. King, who graduated from Southwestern Seminary, pastored five churches in Texas and one in Tennessee. SUDIE KORNEGAY, AA’43, is a retired teacher after a career spanning 44 years. She is enjoying retirement and stays busy doing volunteer work. Mr. and Mrs. WALTER LASSITER, BA’49, FS (AMMA LEE, EX’68) are living in Fort Worth. Amma Lee recently had a pacemaker implanted and Walter suffers from arthritic joint pain. LYNN LEMON, AA’43, on October 4, 2006, celebrated his 67th anniversary of his ordination to the gospel ministry.  He and wife Velma recently moved to Bedford to be near their children.  They have joined Shady Oaks Baptist Church in Hurst and the pastor had Lynn preach there recently.  Lynn preached two services at Fairview Baptist Church near Levelland just before he moved.   He hopes to do some pulpit supply in the area.  (2220 Shady Grove Drive, Bedford, TX  76021  E-mail:  ltlemon@sbcglobal.net)

Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of EMMA FRANCES McCLUSKEY, AA’43, who died on June 28, 2005 in Lubbock, Texas.  She was a teacher for 27 years and had taught in Monahans, Forsan, Cotton Center and Friona.  Emma was a life member of Texas State Teachers Association and of the Retired Teachers Association

Capt. LEO J. McDONALD, USN (Ret), AA’43, and wife Shirley have been honored with a $1 million anonymous gift to the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas.   Capt. McDonald, who retired from the U.S. Navy and his assignment as Chaplain of the Marine Corps in 1979, became the first Academy Chaplain assigned to Staff at the Marine Military Academy. Since 1979, he has additionally assumed duties as Director of Gift Planning. He conducts a monthly Rio Grande Valley Men’s Prayer Breakfast during the academic year and still finds time to teach a  Ladies’ Bible Study each week. Captain McDonald has been active in several community organizations including Festival of Faith Committee, United Way, Ministerial Alliance and was Academy Representative to the Harlingen community. After graduating from Wayland, Capt. McDonald attended Oklahoma Baptist University where he met and married his wife Shirley.  They both graduated in 1948.  Shirley McDonald continued her teaching career until retiring in 1993.  She currently volunteers at Marine Military Academy’s Visitor Center several days each week.  The McDonalds have two sons, Randal and J. Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of DORIS SAMS MERIWETHER, EX’41, who died on January 17, 2002. Doris was retired from Texas Education Agency where she worked for many years. She was a loyal supporter of Wayland. Among Doris’ survivors are a son, George, of Plainview, a daughter, Susan, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and two grandsons.

J.L. MERRILL, EX’49, retired from Oklahoma State government in 1986 and moved with wife Joy to Frederick, Oklahoma. He served a term on the city’s Board of Adjustment and did an 11-month stint with the Chamber of Commerce. Joy died in 1997 and he married Virginia Beth Brantly in 1998. J.L. and Virginia are elders in their church and sing in the choir. Before his retirement, J.L. was president of the National Tax Association Tax Institute of America, a prestigious tax-policy organization composed of members from state governments, the business community and academia. CHESTER O’BRIEN, AA’43, is retired and living in Amarillo.  He was a pastor and served as executive director of the Baptist Convention of New Mexico.  Wife Bonnie is a retired school teacher and they have three grown children and three grandchildren.

CHARLES THOMAS REECE, EX’43, who died on June 6, 2006, in Seagoville.  He had battled Parkinsons for many years and cancer for the last 8 years.  He was a minister for over 60 years and for the last 18, he ministered by working at local funeral homes.  Among his survivors is wife MARGARET NAYLOR REECE, EX’43, three daughters and son-in-law, two sons and daughters-in-law, 9 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.  Charles and Margaret had been married for 63 years.  (705 Jack Street, Seagoville, TX  75159)

Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of RAYMOND M. SPENCE, AA’41, who died on August 18, 2002, in Marysville, California. After Wayland, Raymond graduated from Baylor University and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. During his seminary days, he pastured churches in Texas and Oklahoma. From 1948-1953, he served as a missionary in Japan. Later, in Berkeley, California, he ministered to former Japanese internees. For the past 40 years, he served in small churches in the Sierra Butte Association in northern California and also ministered to jail and prison inmates. Among his survivors is his wife, three daughters and five grandchildren.

LOUISE HICKS STREET, AA’48, retired in 2002 after a 30-year career as a high school English teacher. Husband Kenneth retired the next year as Dean of the Social Sciences School and professor of political science at Austin College. They have two grown children, Cheryl and Greg. Louise and her family have a long relationship with Wayland. She was born in Plainview when her father, A. L. HICKS, EX’35, was a ministerial student at Wayland. After his death in 1954, her mother, ETHEL HICKS, served as Dorm Mom in Mays Hall and Brotherhood hall from 1954-1962. Both of her sisters, MARIE HICKS STOCKARD, AA’42, and ALICE HICKS SCARBOROUGH, AA’46, BA’66, are Wayland graduates. (Louise: 116 W. VIVIAN ROOK BAUHOF-SUTER, AA’43, wrote that she had hoped to come for Homecoming in February and the charter function of the Legacy League, but too many things came up to prevent her from being here.  “Being married a second time and wishing for it to remain a happy one, I have decided to go to College Station with my husband for an annual meeting, then to Houston to see his one surviving son, back to Austin late Saturday night, and to church on Sunday for a special board meeting.”  She serves as chairman of that board.  And then, on Sunday afternoon, Vivian planned to go to the Lady Longhorn basketball game!  She would love to hear from Wayland friends.  (2517 Great Oaks Parkway, Austin, TX  78756  E-mail:  VivianRook@aol.com)

He was preceded in death by wife NANCY “NANNIE LEE” EPPERSON TIMMONS, EX’42, who died in 1979. Among Avery’s survivors is a son, Tim, and a brother, DONNAL TIMMONS, EX’41. Mr. and Mrs BILL TUDOR, EX’48 (MARY BETH DENT, EX’52) live in Dallas where he is a CPA. Bill graduated from Plainview High School and joined the Marine Corps in early 1942 but was sent home because he was only 16. In 1943, he jointed the Naval Air Corps as an aviation cadet. During World War II, he served in New Guinea, Morotai in the Dutch East Indies and at Tacloban, Red Beach, Leyte, the Philippines. This is where MacArthur came ashore. Bill returned to Plainview for a year and a half after he was discharged from the Navy and attended Wayland for two semesters and worked as a radio announcer at KVOP. In 1949, he and Mary Beth Dent, a PHS graduate, were married and moved to Houston where he graduated from University of Houston with his BBA in 1952. They moved to Dallas and he earned his MBA from S.M.U. in 1953 and passed the State CPA exam and started working as a CPA with the national firm of Arthur Young and Company. He h as been a director for the Texas Society of CPAs for some 25 years and served on their executive committee four times, once as treasurer of the TSCPA. He earned his PhD in history from TCU in Fort Worth and has written three books. His newest book will be published soon by Eakin Press of Austin, "Flight of Eagles, The History of Mexican Air Force Squadron 201 in World War II." Bill has spent a lot of time in Mexico and speaks fluent Spanish. His main contact there is Colonel Carlos Garduno who was a member of the squadron and was pilot for Mexican President Lopez Mateos for six years. Bill stays at Garduno’s home when in Mexico Ciy. Bill and Mary Beth have a son, a daughter, four grandchildren and a great granddaughter. They have traveled the world and have had a happy 52 years together. P.J. TYLER, AA'46, is retired and lives in San Angelo. He attended the Baptist General Convention of Texas in October in Corpus Christi and visited the Wayland booth. WANDA GREENFIELD TYLER, AA’46, lives in Richardson, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, with husband KELLER.  He is a physician and was in private practice for 23 years before joining th Cooper Clinic at the Aerobics Center in Dallas in 1977 until he semi-retired in 1991.  He worked in medical research for several years.  Wanda taughter school for about 10 years and then was a stay-at-home mother for several years.   She then entered residential real estate and now has her home office which she works as she chooses.  The Greenfields have three children and 8 grandchildren.  Wanda and Keller have been active in their churches all these years.  At present, they serve as mentors to at-risk elementary children with Kids Hope USA.  (2563 PRIMROSE DRIVE, RICHARDSON, TX  75082  E-MAIL:  ggwtg@sbcglobal.net)

Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of ALTON L. WEEKS, EX’40, who died on November 24, 2002. He was a football player at Wayland. Alton retired after 30 years of service with Shell Chemical Company. He and wife Lorine were avid RVers and spent many summer months on the road. They loved blue grass festivals and were members of a Jeep club exploring sites in many states. Mr. and Mrs. GLYNN WEEKS, EX'40 (MADELINE ARTHUR, EX'41) still live in Wichita Falls, Texas, where they are retired. Glynn owned and operated Glynn Weeks Music Company and Madeline was a secretary in payroll for Burgess Industries. The couple stays busy in retirement. During the Texas Bicentennial, Glynn owned a covered wagon and a team that he drove across the state with other “pioneers.” He has since sold the wagon but still “hitches a ride” for various celebrations and events. In all, Glynn says that he traveled over 8,000 miles in the vehicle. Now in his spare time, he buys, supervises the restoration and sells old tractors. Christian love and sympathy to family and friends of CATHERINE TATUM WEINAUG, AA’41, who died March 5. She was author of Christian children’s books such as "White Lamb Adventure," "Guppies, Gardens and God" and "Boats, Birds, Beasts and Believers." Through her writing, she was responsible for a film about Leo Beuerman, which received international recognition.

Christian love and sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. and Mrs. LEWIS E. WHITE, BS’49 (ZELMA BILES, BS’50) who both died in the last six months. Lewis died on February 24, 2005, and Zelma died on June 18, 2005. He was a retired Baptist minister who had pastored churches in Texas and Oklahoma. L.E. and Zelma, a retired teacher, had maintained their home in Minerals Wells until last year when they moved to Palo Pinto Nursing Center. The move was necessitated after both were hospitalized last year. They are survived by two daughters, JANE WHITE ALEXANDER, EX’67, and KAREN WHITE DONOHO, BA’75. Word has been received of the death of MYRAH HORTON WILKINS, who died on August 3, 1999. She is described as the ultimate “big sister,” generous and caring to a fault, loyal to her church and faithful in her prayers. Christian love and sympathy to her family and friends.

WAYNE WILLIAMS, BA’49, continues to serve as interim pastor at County Line Baptist Church where he has been for 12 years. He retired in 1989 as pastor of Parkway Drive Baptist Church in Lubbock and was named pastor emeritus. Rev. A. T. WORLEY EX’43, and wife Lynette are retired and living in Casa Grande, Arizona.
