special funds & campaign

Though Wayland always has need of undesignated funds that help us with operating Capital Campaignexpenses and emergency needs on our campuses, special projects are also available to which you may give. They are as follows:

* Dr. Wayland Statue - A one-and-one-half times life size statue of our founder and intitial major donor, pioneer physician Dr. James Henry Wayland, will be erected in the circular yard in front of Gates Hall during our Centennial Celebration year. The bronze statue is an enlargement of a statue by Lubbock sculptor Eddie Dixon and will be placed on a marble base and landscaped to include a seating area.

The statue fund has reached $100,000 and another $50,000 is needed to complete this project. The WBU Classes of 1955 and 1956 have undertaken this project to support, but others are certainly welcome to help us honor our visionary founder in this way.

* Endowed Scholarships - Perhaps the best long-term gift is that of an endowed scholarship to Wayland, providing scholarship gifts for students with financial need well into future generations. Scholarships are started with any size donation but must reach a $25,000 balance to reach full endowment. From the beginning, funds are invested through the Baptist Foundation of Texas and interest is added to the account. When the fund reaches endowment, the annual interest is then pulled to create scholarships for students. The benefit to students varies by the account's interest, but the principal fund is never removed, meaning the scholarship continues to bless students well into the future.

* Second Century Campaign - In celebration of its first 100 years in Christian education and in anticipation of a bright future ahead, Wayland Baptist University will embark on a special campaign for special projects beginning in 2008. Called "Embracing the Dream: The Second Century Campaign for Wayland Baptist University," the effort will raise $14 million for the following projects:

* A new Flores Bible Building with missions center
Capital Campaign* Enhanced Fine Arts facilities
* Other campus enhancements
* Additional endowed scholarships
* General university endowment
* Annual undesignated funds

More detailed information on the Second Century Campaign will be available online soon. Please begin praying about what your contribution to this historic effort can be!
