Students in hallwayThe application process at Wayland is offered in very much the same way as everything else here—with a personalized touch.

The first thing to do is determine at what level and what status you will enter the University. While many steps will be the same regardless, variations do exist depending on whether you enter as an undergraduate or a graduate student, and if you’re coming straight from high school or transferring from another college or university. Additionally, while most students enter at degree seeking status, others enter as non-degree seeking students.

Undergraduate—Degree Seeking

First-Time Freshmen
This option is available for first-time freshman applicants who have not been enrolled at any college-level institution except while in high school or during the summer immediately following high school graduation and before enrolling in the University for the subsequent fall. To be considered for this option, you will be asked to submit the following:

  • A completed application for admission.
  • An application fee of $35 (non-refundable).
  • Official test scores from either the ACT or SAT (the highest available ACT composite or SAT combined score will be used for admission decisions).  The written section is not required for admission.
  • An official transcript from an accredited high school which indicates graduation and the completion of three years of English, two years of mathematics, two years of social sciences, and two years of science.

Transfer Students
Students who have previously been enrolled in a college or university may be admitted as a transfer student. To be considered for transfer status, you will be asked to submit the following:

  • A completed application for admission.
  • An application fee of $35 (non-refundable).
  • Official transcripts from each institution attended.

Transfer students with less than 24 transferable hours will also be required to submit:

  • An official high school transcript showing graduation.
  • ACT or SAT I scores.

Readmission
Any fully admitted student returning to Wayland Baptist after an absence of a fall or spring regular semester must apply for readmission. There is no application fee required for this procedure, and you will be asked to submit the following:

  • A completed application for admission.
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended since last enrolling in Wayland.

Undergraduate—Non-Degree Seeking

Concurrent High School
Students may apply to be concurrently enrolled with Wayland following the completion of two-thirds of the required credits for high school graduation. Applicants must submit:

  • A completed application for admission.
  • An official high school transcript showing completion of required credits.
  • Official ACT or SAT I scores.
  • A completed concurrent enrollment agreement, which can be obtained from the Office of Admissions. This agreement will require the signatures of the student, parent, high school principal or high school counselor, Wayland’s Vice President for Academic Services/Graduate Studies, and the Registrar.

Transient Students
Students who desire to enroll in courses for transfer to another university may enroll as non-degree transient students. This status must be verified prior to each succeeding semester. Applicants must submit:

  • A completed application for admission.
  • An official transcript or letter of good standing from the institution most recently attended.

Self-Improvement Students
Self-improvement admission is designed for individuals who do not intend on completing a degree program but wish to take courses for credit.  Applicants must submit:

After 12 semester hours of enrollment within self-improvement non-degree seeking status, an undergraduate student must apply for and complete admission requirements to enter a degree program or reapply to continue in non-degree seeking status. 

Audit Students
Students may attend classes for a course without receiving credit if they complete an application for admission, submit a course audit form at the time of registration, and have the permission of both the instructor of the course and the dean of the school in which the course is offered. The fee is one-third tuition in addition to all course fees. No credit is awarded and no record of the student’s attendance is maintained. Students will not be given permission to audit a course until the first day of classes. Audits are on a space-available basis and no refund will be given if the course is dropped.

 

Graduate Students
Students desiring to enter the graduate program must submit the following documents:

  • A completed graduate application for admission.
  • An application fee of $35 (non-refundable). Current and past Wayland students are excused from this fee.
  • Official transcripts from each institution attended. A transcript is official if received by the Office of Graduate Studies or the external campus office directly from the issuing institution. It must bear the college seal, date, and appropriate signature. Hand-carried transcripts are considered official only if they are presented to Wayland in a sealed letterhead envelope from the issuing institution. If the bachelor’s degree has not been conferred at the time the transcript is sent, an official transcript indicating the completion of the baccalaureate degree must be forwarded after graduation.
  • Entrance examination scores. Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores may be used for application of all graduate programs. Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) scores may be used for the M.A. in Management, M.B.A., or M.Ed. applicants. Test scores are official if received by the Office of Graduate Studies or the dean of any external campus. Each applicant is individually responsible for making arrangements for taking the GRE or GMAT and for having the scores sent to the Office of Graduate Studies, Wayland Baptist University, 1900 W. 7th, Plainview, TX 79072.

Application files will not be evaluated until all of the above requirements have been met.
