GREK 1301-1302. Elementary Greek - New Testament (Koine) Greek, stressing vocabulary, conjugation, declension, parsing, and translation.

GREK 2301-2302. Intermediate Greek
- Grammatical principles in addition to advanced
study in syntax and translation. Prerequisite: GREK 1302.

HEBR 1301-1302. Elementary Hebrew - Hebrew language, vocabulary, conjugation,
declension, parsing, and translation.

HEBR 2301-2302. Intermediate Hebrew - Review of grammar, translation, syntax, and exegesis.

PHIL 1301. Introduction to Philosophy - The history, methods, and basic problems of philosophy.

PHIL 3304. Western Political Thought (HIST/POLS 3304) - Selected study of major political
philosophers and their ideas that have influenced the West’s understanding of important
political concepts on human nature, the state, and civil society. Prerequisite: POLS 2301.

PHIL 4303. Philosophy of Religion (RLGN 4303) - Philosophical thinking about religion
with emphasis on the Judeo-Christian tradition. Major attention is given to the nature of religious experience, the nature and existence of God, the problem of evil and suffering, religious epistemology, human destiny, and the relation of science and religion. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

PHIL 4310. World Religions (RLGN 4310) - Introduction to the thought of major religions
of the world. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

PHIL 4314. Biblical Interpretation (RLGN 4314) - The science of biblical exegesis and
interpretation. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

PHIL 4319. Ethics - Introduction to the classical and biblical theories of ethics with their
application to moral and social problems. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

PHIL 4322. American Political Thought (HIST/POLS 4322) - American political thought
from colonial times to the present. Prerequisite: POLS 2301.

PHIL 4323. Basic Christian Ethics (RLGN 4323) - Introduction to principles of Christian
ethics with their application to problems of contemporary society. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301
and 1302.

RLED 1301. Introduction to Baptist Ministry - An introduction to the Christian ministry;
affirmation of one's calling to church-related vocations; evaluation of gifts and abilities to perform ministry; and brief overview of the history, organization, work and cooperative endeavors of Baptists through the local church, association, state convention, and denominational bodies.  Fee applies to Plainview campus only: $25.

RLED 3309. Spiritual Formation (RLGN 3309) - Principles of discipleship, prayer, spiritual
gifts, and ministry involvement. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

RLED 3315. Preschool and Children's Ministries in the Church - Preschool/child learner
with special emphasis given to age-level needs, church educational programs, curriculum, and ministry. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

RLED 3319. Youth Ministry in the Church - Procedure in developing an integrated youth
ministry with emphasis given to the work of the youth minister and the developmental needs of

RLED 3320. The Youth Minister - An examination of the roles of the contemporary youth
minister, including administrator, educator, counselor, and family member. Prerequisites:

RLED 3335. Understanding Christian Marriage (RLGN 3335) - Biblical understanding of
marriage. Study will be made of communication, conflict resolution, sexuality, intentional
growth, and other marital issues. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

RLED 4301. Survey of Christian Education - Historical background relating to the history
of religious education, emphasizes utilization and organization of human resources within a
Southern Baptist church. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

RLED 4302. Church Administration - Applied principles of church administration as they
relate to the role of the church staff in leadership, public relations, church staff relations, and
worship. Prerequisite: junior standing. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

RLED 4308. Evangelism (RLGN 4308) - Principles, messages, and methods of the New
Testament evangelism and discipleship. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

RLED 4312. Contemporary Christian Missions (RLGN 4312) - Examination of current
Christian mission efforts through various national and international mission agencies, emphasizing organization, strategies and methodologies for support and involvement. Prerequisite: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

RLED 4315. The Christian Ministry (RLGN 4315) - Christian Ministry in contemporary
culture. Includes historical and theological foundations, avenues of ministry, preventive education, and pastoral counseling. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

RLED 4321. Psychology of Religion (RLGN 4321) - Psychological aspects of spiritual development, a comparison between psychology and religion, and a model for integration of the two disciplines. Prerequisite: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

RLED 4349. History of Christian Missions (RLGN 4349) - The history of Christian missions
with an emphasis upon the Modern Missions Movement and the Baptist missions efforts.
Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

RLED 4351. Contemporary Missions in Eastern Africa (RLGN 4351) - Overview of East
African culture and the Kiswahili language. Mission activities from the past including the most
recent decade will be discussed. Christian relief and development and other strategies for ministering to unreached people groups. Equipping volunteers to be more effective in missions. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

RLED 4360. Practicum (RLGN 4360) - Develop skills in ministry by means of class lectures
and internship experience under complete supervision. Persons already in ministry positions
will be placed with appropriate supervisors. Prerequisite: junior standing. Prerequisites:
RLGN 1301 and 1302.

RLED 4361. Supervised Ministry (RLGN 4361) - Practical skills, healthy attitudes, and varied
approaches to ministry under competent supervision and class participation. Persons
presently in ministry positions will be required to find an appropriate supervisor. Prerequisites:
RLGN 1301 and 1302.

Religion Courses

RLGN 0001. Theological Research and Writing Lab - Workshop to guide students through
research, writing, and completion of Turabian style research project as required by the School
of Religion and Philosophy. Course offered on-line and on the Plainview campus. May be
taken as a co-requisite with the first upper level RLED/RLGN course which requires a research paper or if required by the instructor. Fee: $50.00.

RLGN 1301. Old Testament History - An introductory survey of the historical literature with
special attention to the institutions, religion, and national life of the Hebrew people.

RLGN 1302. New Testament History - An introductory survey of the historical literature with
special attention to the background and origins of Christian beliefs and practices, and to the life of Jesus Christ and the early Christian community.

known as Second Temple Judaism, including a survey of the apocryphal, pseudepigraphal, and Dead Sea literature and their implications for New Testament study. Prerequisites: RLGN
1301 and 1302.

RLGN 4307. Church History - History of the Christian Church. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301
and 1302.

RLGN 4308. Evangelism (RLED 4308) - Principles, messages, and methods of the New
Testament evangelism and discipleship. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

RLGN 4310. World Religions (PHIL 4310) - Introduction to the thought of major religions

RLGN 4311. New Religious Movements - Introduction to the history and thought of religious
or spiritual groups founded after 1800, which evidence deviant beliefs and/or practices from
established denominations and religions. Major attention will be given to Latter-Day Saints,
Jehovah’s Witnesses, Christian Science, New Age Movements, and other groups which have a
significant presence in the United States. Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.

RLGN 4326. The Ministry of the Holy Spirit - The work of the Holy Spirit in the life of the
Christian and the ministry of the church, relationship of the Holy Spirit to the Bible (inspiration
and authority), to the individual (in filling and spiritual gifts), and to the church (Christian
growth and evangelism). Prerequisites: RLGN 1301 and 1302.
