dr. john scott herrington
Dr. John Scott Herrington joined the faculty at Wayland Baptist University in 1992. Prior to teaching at Wayland Dr. Herrington served on the faculties at West Texas State University and Baylor University.
A product of the Texas public school system, Dr. Herrington received degrees from West Texas State University, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Conservatory of Music at The University of Missouri in Kansas City where received the Outstanding Graduate Achievement Award.
Dr. Herrington has been invited to guest conduct The Lubbock Chorale and Orchestra, The Plainview Symphony, Texas Baptist All-State Choirs, New Mexico Baptist State Choir Camp and, on three occasions, TMEA All-Region High School Choirs. He has served as clinician for choirs in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.
Choirs under Dr. Herrington’s direction have been invited to perform for the “Celebration of American Music” in China and “The American-Czech Choral Festival” in Prague, Czech Republic. His ensembles have also been invited to perform for the Governor of Texas, The Baptist General Convention of Texas and New Mexico Baptist Convention state conventions. Dr. Herrington’s choirs have also performed at the West Point Military Academy, the Air Force Military Academy, St. John’s Cathedral in New York City and toured abroad in Austria, China, Hong Kong, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia.
Dr. Herrington holds memberships in the National Collegiate Choral Organization, the American Choral Directors Association, Texas Music Educators Association, and the Texas Choral Directors Association where he has served as State Chair of the Repertoire and Standards Committee on Youth and Student Activities.
At Wayland, Dr. Herrington conducts the International Choir, Wayland Singing Women, and Wayland Singing Men. He also teaches and has taught classes in Basic Conducting, Choral Conducting, Conducting Seminar, and Choral Literature.
In 2006, Wayland Baptist University presented Dr. Herrington the prestigious Maloney Faculty Award in recognition of academic excellence and leadership, Christian commitment and dedication, and contribution to the lives of students at WBU.
Dr. Herrington is married to Sarah and has two sons, Jackson Lee and John Mac.
