From the Dean:

      Wayland has a history of turning “dreams into realities;” the latest one in the School of Music is the establishment of the Friends of Music . Through dedicated and persistent leadership, the group, only in its second year, is making a significant difference in the lives of our music students.
      Please consider joining them as they articulate a vision that includes ongoing scholarship assistance for our students, prayerful support from near and far, and participation in concert and social events offered by the School of Music. Your prayers, your presence, and your gifts are
all transformational. If you are a continuing member, THANK YOU for your previous contributions;
     If you are a potential new member, please consider the positive impact that you can make on these Wayland music students If you are in the Plainview area, please refer to the Music Performance Calendar on the School of Music website ( and plan to support our students by attending a concert or recital. Your presence in the hall will enhance their performance as well as bring you joy!
      We hope to see you from the stage…

Student Responses

Friends of Music awarded three student scholarships for 2009-10 and three recruiting incentive scholarships to the faculty for the 2010-11 incoming class – one to each of the performing areas: Instrumental, Keyboard, and Vocal.

“With this scholarship I am able to continue my education so that I can share my passion for music and influence those that are less fortunate than I am… I hope to influence my colleagues to strive to be the best they can be in their studies, personal life, and also in their relationship with God.”

Joel Duarte – Senior, Baritone

Bachelor of Music in Vocal Music Education

“I am truly honored to be a recipient of the 2009-2010 Friends of Music  scholarship. It encourages me knowing that people believe enough in what I am doing to support me financially. I am so grateful God has given me a passion for music. I am also grateful He has allowed me to spend time here learning and growing. I know my experiences here at Wayland are helping me channel my passion for His glory.”

Allison Vetter – Junior, French Horn
Bachelor of Music in Instrumental Music Education

“Thank you immensely for the scholarship. Considering the Friends of Music are only a year old, the amount of money you were able and willing to donate in scholarships is exceptional. To be one of the first to benefit from your love of music, to usher in this relationship you will have with generations of music students to come, is quite an honor.”

David Brosseau – Junior, Piano & Composition
Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in Theory & Composition
