PLAINVIEW – Wayland Baptist University junior Aaron Ross was killed in a traffic accident Sunday near Kress.
Ross was riding his bicycle, northbound on U.S. Highway 87 north of Kress when he was struck by a 2003 Chevy Avalanche also traveling northbound on Highway 87. Ross was airlifted to Covenant Hospital in Lubbock. He was pronounced dead shortly after 7 p.m.
Ross was from Tulia and was majoring in molecular biology at Wayland. His twin brother Jarrett is also a student at Wayland.
“Aaron and his brother Jarrett are a very special part of Wayland Baptist University,” said Dr. Paul Armes, President of Wayland. “We are deeply saddened and grieved by Aaron's loss. He was a fine young man who was known and loved by many at our school. The prayers and thoughts of the entire university are extended to this wonderful family.”
Wayland will hold a special time of remembrance during its weekly chapel service on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Harral Memorial Auditorium. Ross was active at Colonial Baptist Church in Plainview.
