The Department of Geology is housed in the Moody Science Building. The building has been remodeled and updated for geology needs.

The geology facilities includes:

  • Petrology Lab
  • Paleontology Lab
  • Geographic Information System (GIS) Lab
  • Microscope and Imaging Lab
  • Conference Room
  • Map library
    • includes an extensive digital and paper map collection of topographic, geological and other specialized maps
    • the Mabee Learning Resources Center (LRC) has a growing library that includes electronic access to both GeoRef and GeoScienceWorld for journal articles
  • Rock, mineral, and fossil collection
    • The University specimen collection includes a variety of invertebrate and vertebrate specimens from through-out the United States. Many of the larger specimens and other archival materials are housed at the Llano Estacado Museum. This collection includes material from Nebraska and South Dakota that was collected under a federal permit.
