Dr. Estelle Owens was born in Buna (Jasper County) Texas. Dr. Owens is a graduate of Wayland Baptist College (B.A. 1971), Baylor University (M.A. 1973), and Auburn University (Ph.D. 1983) with majors in history. She has been on the faculty at Wayland since 1974 and was elected teacher of the year five times. She has won the Sears Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching. Her specialty areas include: Texas, Civil War and Reconstruction, American women's history. Dr. Owens has published in the fields of Baptist history, oral history, and handbooks for teachers.

Dr. Tim Walsh is an assistant professor of physical sciences joining the faculty at Wayland Baptist University in Fall 2002. He earned a doctorate in May 2002 from Texas Tech in the area of geology. He also holds a master of science in geology degree from Oklahoma State University and a bachelor of science degree in geology from Phillips University in Oklahoma.
Walsh has research interests in all aspects of the Late Paleozoic strata and fauna and has worked on projects in New Mexico, north central Texas and southern Kansas. He has published several articles concerning his research with the Elm Creek Formation and Kansas projects, and has received grants for research.

Debbie Flournoy (referred to as Professor Flo) attended Texas Tech University receiving a Bachelor of Music with Teaching Certification and a Master of Music in Piano Performance. While Flo is serving full-time as Director of Vocal Music Education at Wayland Baptist University in Plainview, Texas, she continues nearing completion of a PhD in Fine Arts at Texas Tech. Flo teaches elementary methods, secondary choral methods, music technology, supervises student teachers, and directs the professional Children’s Chorus of Plainview.
Professor Flo has 11 years of public school teaching experience in grades K-12. During this time, students under her direction achieved UIL Division I Ratings for choir, state solo and ensemble, sweepstakes honors, and placement of students in the Texas All-State Choir. Urban Choirs under Flo’s leadership earned festival sweepstakes, Best in Class, and Grand Champion Honors at Choir Festivals in Texas, Florida and California.
Over a four year period, students under her leadership received over $200,000 in college music scholarships.
Student teachers supervised under Flo have been placed in music education positions throughout Texas and requests for Wayland graduates continue to grow. SPIRIT, a vocal jazz ensemble under the direction of Professor Flo, performance highlights include Alaska, TMEA, NBA Spurs Basketball games, a CD studio project, and most recently a trip to Hong Kong and Schenzhen, China along with the International Choir under the direction of Dr. Scott Herrington.
Flo continues to serve as a UIL Region and State adjudicator, choir clinician, and presenter for urban school districts and music conventions including TMEA, Dallas ISD, San Antonio ISD, Midland ISD, Lubbock ISD and MENC.
Flo is the mother of three daughters: Julie, Stephanie, and Tisha.
