Using the Digital Dropbox in Blackboard

The Virtual Campus often receives calls and emails from Students and Instructors alike regarding how to use the Digital Dropbox in Blackboard, as well as reporting that assignments are not being delivered as they should be. This occurs most often as a result of User error instead of System error. This tutorial will provide you with instructions on how to properly use the Digital Dropbox.

USING THE DIGITAL DROPBOX

Instructions:

  • While in your Classroom, click on the "Tools" or "Course Tools" Menu button located on the left side of your screen

  • You will be redirected to the Course "Tools" Menu Screen. Click on the Digital Dropbox link

  • When the Digital Dropbox Screen Appears, select the "SEND FILE" option. ***Do not use the "Add File Option". This option will only post the document for your view in the Digital Dropbox and will not send it to your Instructor

  • Once you Select the "Send File" option, you will receive a page to enter a file for the file, a place to attach a file, and a box to add comments or notes for your instructor.

  • Once you have enter the information and attached your file, click on the submit button at the bottom right hand corner of the page

  • You should receive a Receipt Message which will include the name of the File followed by the message "File has been sent to the Selected users with Role of Instructor". Under this, you will also be provided a time and date stamp of when the file was sent.

COMPRESSING A FILE

For Large files, the Virtual Campus recommends you Compress the document before attempting to upload it into Blackboard

Instructions:

  1. Location the document on your computer

    1. Right click with your mouse on the file

    2. Scroll down the menu to the "Send TO" option and select "Compressed (zipped Folder)

  2. A compressed folder will be created in the same folder on your computer as the original document. This is what you will upload into Blackboard.
