Student Access for AdvisingMaterials furnished to students in class should indicate means by which you are available to provide assistance regarding class work. A schedule of office hours is the optimum, but if this is not possible, some means of access for students should be devised. For many adjunct faculty, this may involve availability prior to or after class sessions, by e-mail, or by telephone. Some online instructors use the Virtual Classroom functionality to give office hours. Online classes require special handling, and receiving calls at all hours may be necessary. The idea of "office hours" may not hold up for online classes, but instructors are encouraged to specify appropriate times for students to call. If you want your students to contact you at home or work, provide them with the telephone number. The campus offices do not give out this information to students unless you have given permission to do so. Any questions from students will be directed through the Division Chairs or the Campus Deans unless you otherwise advise the students. |
