Offered online through the School of Education, the MED offers five specializations. Each of these programs can be completed in 18 months. Specializations include Instructional Leadership, Instructional Technology, Higher Education, Special Education and Educational Administration. These degrees are designed for students new to Wayland and all courses required for the degrees are available online.

The Master of Education degree is designed to enhance the preparation and leadership of individuals within the education profession and those entering teaching. The focus of the Master of Education is curriculum, instruction, and leadership. Students engage in academic and professional studies focused on teaching and leadership. The degree program is a minimum of thirty-six semester credit hours (thirty-nine for certification programs) with a professional core and a professional emphasis.

For specific requirements for each specialization, refer to the WBU Catalog. Please note that The Special Education program requires state licensure tests (Texas) as does the Principalship program (Texas or New Mexico). These licenses only apply to the state by which they are issued. The professional studies specializations include an action research project.

• Completed graduate application for admission
• Non-refundable application fee of $50 (current and past WBU students are excused from this fee)
• Official transcripts from each institution previously attended

Additionally, candidates for the Principalship certification must hold a valid teaching license and be able to have taught a total of three years by the end of their studies in the degree program. Candidates for the Special Education specialization must take the academic skills requirement for the teacher certification program.
